The Godfather it ain't, but this is a fun and entertaining mob action flick. Even though there are some unforgivable anachronisms such as early 70s model automobiles and a view of the World Trade Towers in 1930s New York, it still has a strong old-time gangster flavor to it. Charles Bronson gives one of his better performances as Joe Valachi, and he is supported by a host of fine actors who are perfectly cast in their roles, particularly Lino Ventura and Joseph Wiseman. Some nicely staged bloody shootouts in this Italian-French co-production.

I remember this--nasty scene where they castrate the guy. Bronson warned him to stay away from her!

A lot of bullshit in this movie.
Valachi was low-level (and Valachi was from my neighborhood, which my father said I should never mention to anyone), and much of his testimony was bullshit meant to make him look more important.
Knowing this made it harder to appreciate Buchinsky's very good performance.

Director Terence Young does indeed a solid job, and Charles Bronson truly carries it along. I really do enjoy the films (Red Sun, Cold Sweat) they did together.
