Well domestically Alita has been a failure but I suppose with the international market the film hopefully got their made up their budget at least. Doubt a sequel is going to happen though.

Re:International market -You forget marketing costs and the fact that studios get a smaller % of the box office take vs. Domestic (which is still not 100%) For instance in China, Fox will only get 25-27% of the gross there. What that means is 350m Worldwide (as of this time) against a 170m budget (not counting prints &advertising) means Altia is losing money at the moment. Estimates I read said it needed approx 500m ww to break even which I don't know if possible. Even if it hits break-even, I'm not sure that's good enough. It is a shame though as it's original content and it could have had a sequel based on ending of the film, but like you said I also doubt it will happen.

Fox estimate is 350 mill, other figures range between from 400 to 550 mill.
But tickets is not the only way a movie makes money: DVD/blu ray sales, TV or streaming services, merchandise article etc. pp.
I think it is so far a break even over all.

Fox will obviously underestimate the break even figure to save face. Just based on P&A and foreign box office take percentage wise I can't see less than 500m as the point where they don't lose money on the film.
Regardless - this is no franchise starter

Can't understand how these nuts have got on the Alita bandwagon, the story of Alita is so far from their thinking.

Yeah, that's really absurd, especially if you keep in mind that this is the baby of a producer like James Cameron, who with many of his other movies, especially "Avatar", surely cannot be the hero of American right wingers.
