Just wondering - as far as the Imperial Corporate Structure goes - do the Imperial Guards outrank Darth?
e.g. If one of them was to knock on the door of his guest room on the Death Star and tell him "Mr Palpatine has asked that you personally clean the latrines on level 27" how would he respond?
Does the expanded universe (old or new) offer any insight as to how the corporate structure chart would play out here?

Why would anyone but Palpatine outrank the Dark Lord of the Sith?

Why would anyone but Palpatine outrank the Dark Lord of the Sith? Don't forget Mr Vader was outranked by Tarkin until that terrible Death Star business necessitated a complete structural overhaul. I suspect in a tree like structure they'd probably be on an equal footing, reporting directly into the Emperor. Therefore if a guard did make that request of Vader mentioned previously I think he'd be obliged to follow it.

Vader is outside the Imperial Navy, so he has no "rank"
One could infer that after the Death Star debacle, The Emperor then "promoted" him, as a sort of Anti-Rebellion Czar.
