Which of the three cuts do you prefer overall?
I would have to go with the US theatrical version. Maybe it’s because it’s the one I’m most familiar with, but I do like the quirks (music, humour) and the pacing was never an issue for me.

Agreed.
Easily the theatrical cut. It's leaner, faster and at 2 hours-plus, still plenty long enough for any movie about zombies.
The snappy editing just seems to propel things along at a much slicker pace and the score in the theatrical cut is so much more effective than the alternative versions as well.
I never watch any other version.

Funny thing, all of them are free to watch on YouTube. The Extended Cut is in the poorest quality, though.
There’s also a 2.5 hour long version, or the “Extra Long Version” as it states.

All three are worth watching, but the theatrical overall.

Was it the European version that had the scene where the SWAT guys are going in to the building with the National guard and they come up to the door where the dead are kept and they proceed to knock it in. In the theatrical and extended version I think once the door is knocked in the dead are immediately flooding out completely overwhelming police and soldiers. I think the European version there was a small few second wait while they're peering in before the dead start pushing themselves out. If I'm correct I prefer the European version for that scene. I think the Goblin score was better in the European version. Overall I prefer the extended cut. The longer the better.

I think that’s the same version I watched.

Extended. The more Dawn of the Dead the better.

Extended. The more Dawn of the Dead the better. Agreed. Whenever I'm up for watching Dawn Of The Dead I always watch the extended version on my Anchor Bay ultimate edition.

If you have The Ultimate Edition what do you think is the best commentary. I'm going for European because of the cast. Theatrical very close because of Romero, Chris Romero and Savini.

Extended Cut. I had the 2 tape VHS set, so that's the only cut I watched for years and years.
I have fond memories of having to take tape 1 out when it gets to the door locking scene in the mall, them with the car and the blow torches, and it is night outside, and having to put in tape 2.
When I got the Ultimate DVD set and watched all 3 cuts, it remained my favorite. u Euro cut Is way too short. Theatrical cut is ok, but I miss the extra scenes at the police dock and of our heroes trying to find waysyto pass thetime in the mall.
I like to listen to theRomero/Savini audio commentary track best, then the cast'. Richard P. Rubenstein's commentary is a chore to get through.

Personally I like all of them. I like the Extended Version the most but I have seen all three of them and enjoyed them. There is apparently a fourth cut called 'The Extended Mall Hours Cut' that goes for 155 minutes and combines all the footage of the different versions and some additional bonus scenes that were left out but it sounds like it is really hard to get.

I thought about adding the extra long version to the selection, but I wasn’t too sure if it’s simply a fan cut, or an official release.

The cast commentary is the only one I haven’t listened to. I should check it out. Romero’s commentary is a great listen, while I never finished producer Richard Rubinstein’s commentary track.

The only time i think I’ve come across a copy of the 155min cut was on a 4 disc German release. Or maybe I was simply mistaking it for the 140 min extended cut? Although now it’s on YouTube.

I recall at the time that some fans were upset over the Rubinstein commentary because it's on the extended cut and he seemed to be pugging the 2004 remake quite a bit. I haven't listened to that one myself so I don't know. Some hardcore fans can be fickle and complain about anything.

Didn’t they release an ultimate edition with multiple cuts?

Didn’t they release an ultimate edition with multiple cuts? I think the ultimate editions only have the three cuts. I do own the DVD set. There might be a German release of the Extended Mall Hours Cut? British company Second Sight just got the rights for Dawn of the Dead two months ago, and are planning to release it to bluray, but only 3 cuts. So I don’t know how easy it is to get that 155min cut? Dawn of the Dead Blu Second Sight
