I want to know who wrote this up. And what exactly they think is good-probably just broccoli. Not only is it the wrong title-instead of gross-they should have said unhealthy-since that seems to be the complaint. But you're right-most are delicious. Whoa-just got to my state-this person has a problem with beer cheese soup? Seriously they need to refrain from writing anymore articles.

Not only are the selections strange, but the "explanations" are, as well. For California, the author lists the "In-and-Out" Burger. The explanation is that the company made a mistake, by opening a restaurant in 1948, and they have made more mistakes, since. What does that mean?

What does that mean? Well, no, that is not the explanation. The explanation is that the author thinks In-n-Out burgers are crap. The thing about the company having made a mistake in 1948 by opening a restaurant in the first place is just a clever (in his own mind) way of saying that he wished it never existed.
Personally I couldn't disagree more. I love In-n-Out burgers and I make a point of eating one every time I go to California - usually it is my first stop after picking up my rental car!

That puts you in good company with Julia Child. She loved "In-and-Out" burgers. Before she moved to Santa Barbara, she insisted on "I-a-O" burgers, when she visited her sister, in the bay area. I think they're "a cut above," most other chains.

I agree with a lot of these choices. The "preselected credit cards" were especially off-putting. I have to say I was expecting that for my original home state of New Jersey I would see Taylor ham as the feature. For those who are not familiar, that is very much like hard salami fried and served on a hamburger bun. Highly popular for some reason. Instead, they chose dinner rolls. I am speechless. Every high-class restaurant in America should serve dinner rolls.
I am with the author of this list on Alaska (whale blubber and blueberries), Idaho (ice cream on a potato) and New York (Rochester Garbage Plate) although I have to admit I have never tried any of these dishes.

My son grew up in CA but lived here in Austin for over 10 years. He's coming to visit. I asked where he wanted to eat. In-N-Out. They don't have it in Seattle.

37 locations now. I used to have to go up to Dallas to get it. The What-A-Burger Texans hate it. www.in-n-out.com/locations/texas

What The Fuck is wrong with this bitch, and Who The Fuck does she think she is? Clearly she has an over inflated belief of her self importance in the world... With numerous comments LIKE: " anybody out there with their taste buds still intact and a basic sense of what should go into your body and what shouldn’t", " We’ll admit", " I knew that people in the Hoosier state were gross…" ...All I felt like I wanted to do, was punch her lights out... Every time she wrote something. As noted by other posters here, much of the food she was talking about, actually sounded good... And some of which I know I have had, and enjoyed... Alabama — Ambrosia Salad Colorado — Shredded Wheat (Frosted) Delaware — Frozen Custard (These are available throughout the country, not just in those states!) She clearly DOESN'T speak for the majority, especially with this comment... " There was a very close call here between Chicago hot dogs and pizza" "Chicago Style Pizza"? Seriously? Her "Opinion" is the only time I have EVER heard anything negative about "Chicago Style Pizza"!Even when I agreed with her on some of her food selections, she was still being a complete ass about it. And as sweetpea noted... " Not only is it the wrong title-instead of gross-they should have said unhealthy-since that seems to be the complaint." Unhealthy? Sure. But, "Gross" only to the writer. Either way, she needs to STOP speaking on behalf of others, because most don't agree. I couldn't even finish reading her Piece Of Shit article!... It's bad enough, that I hate articles like those, that are posted in over "50" parts... But, I refuse to read any more of her BS comments saying how great she is, and how gross the rest of us are!

I was surprised by how good the list was at picking gross foods.
Only two I differ with, and one is only partial disagreement. I don't eat meat, but when I did, squirrel was one of the few digestible and savory game foods. It takes a good cook, though, to fix it well.
And they pick on Delaware for frozen custard. Not sure what they meant by that. They said they didn't want eggs in ice cream, but if ice cream doesn't have eggs in it, it's garbage. All home made ice cream is delicious due to the eggs.
They correctly identify lots of gross foods. I was hoping they would name "Scrapple" from Indiana, and I think it may just be the pig brains they speak of. Scrapple is almost as nauseating as bratwurst, so you get the picture there.
As for the complaint some have over the New Jersey pick of dinner rolls, the author clearly stated that the pick was made because New Jersey claimed they made dinner rolls famous, a ridiculous claim, and the rolls themselves weren't gross, but the idea that New Jersians claim they invented them was gross.
As for Chicago style pizza, which someone said was good, it gets nothing but complaints. May as well eat a tomato and skip the fat grams, because that's all you can taste. It's for the rubes, sure, who like to eat tomatoes, but not for people with taste buds. It isn't pizza. It's a tomato.
Very excellent list, overall. I was surprised.

While many of the choices make no sense, one can hardly disagree with Fried Butter for Iowa.
