Of course MCU's Magneto will be inferior to McKellan. He's a legend. I don't believe that the MCU will ever make a better X-Men film than X2, and will never come close to something like Logan.
But he specifically says that if Bryan Singer and Kevin Spacey didn't have to hide the fact that they were gay then they wouldn't have had to abuse people the way that they did. That's a pretty awful comment. I wonder how people around here would react if Robert Downey Jr. had said it.

How exactly does hiding that you are gay lead to allegedly abusing kids?

Wow! The old X-Men were a clandestine sect of perverts. Thank goodness they are moving to a safe pair of hands with the MCU!

That worked. Thanks.
So here's the quote:
"Both of them were in the closet and hence all their problems as people and their relationship with other people," McKellen observed. "If they had been able to be open about themselves and their desires, they wouldn’t have started abusing people in the way they’ve been accused."
That sounds like he's trying to give them an excuse, an "out". No. Wrong is wrong no matter what. Just because you were wronged doesn't make it ok to then wrong someone else. If it is factually accurate that they sexually abused anyone they should be thrown in jail.
The problem that we're facing nowadays is that people are being accused and before they've been found actually guilty their lives are being destroyed; damage they cant come back from even if it turns out they're found innocent by a court of law. These accusations will follow Spacey and Singer around forever, whether found innocent or not.
Whatever happened to "presumed innocent until found guilty"? Is an accusation alone enough now?

This part has me like "Wait... what?" They wouldn't have started abusing people in the way they've been accused? Is he saying they did abuse people? Also, that whole quote makes no sense. Singer was making movies about people wanting to be themselves. But, at the same time, he's being accused of using the power he held to get what he wanted. That doesn't sound like a suppressed individual.

I think he was trying to defend his friends, but may have thrown more gas on the fire inadvertently.
Bottom line: There needs to be an investigation. If they're found guilty they should go to jail. If they're found innocent they should be vindicated. Period.

Does there? The court of public opinion is more damaging. Especially when there are a lot of accusers.

Wouldn't you want the truth to come out if you were accused of something you didn't do? You'd only want there NOT to be an investigation if you were guilty. I'd want the truth to come if it were me.

How can you investigate something that happened years ago like that? The only thing you'd be able to find out is if the person was there. I mean, you can do lie detectors, but those can be beaten.

If there isn't you move on. If there is you go after him. That's how ALL cases are made. Even against folks who get caught red-handed.
