Definately sounds like there may have been some coverup I remember seeing a great doc years ago about a guy that actually moved to the US right after the murders, forget the name of him though. That was very convincing

"Murder by Decree" was definitely a really good JtR movie. As to who did the murders, like Zodiac, I don't think the real killer has been ever been brought forward.

I'm partial to the "Wolf in the Fold" episode of Star Trek and the "Knife in the Darkness" episode of Cimarron Strip. Jack the Ripper's identity still hasn't been positively verified, but there is one thing we can definitely know about him. He was a Freemason.

Now off to wiki to read about the people involved I recently saw Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde (1971) which incorporates elements from two great tales. Core story is that of Dr.Jeckyll and Mr.Hyde and methods of Jack the Ripper are also incorporated. The characters Burke AND Hare from JTR legends are also on it. I think the movie is good enough for one view and I enjoyed it. Although it is not my fav JTR movie. That would probably be the one starring sir Ian Holm.
