Sounds like you haven't watched the documentary therefore your statement is... meaningless and pointless. What if I told you I did and I still felt this way? Then you would be a liar. It's pretty clear from your statement you didn't.

Pulling an episode just brings more attention to it. Just like pulling songs like baby it's cold outside off the radio. It's counter productive because what do people do after it gets pulled? They seek it out and give attention to something old that people haven't thought of in years. They've made an episode from the early 90s relevant again.
"Which one of us is truly crazy?" Homer: "Not me! I got this!"

I didn't see any of the documentary. Judging by some of the comments on social media, I don't really know if I want to.
I'll keep Michael Jackson - the artist separate from Michael Jackson - the person.
Don't know if that episode has been pulled from iTunes. Last time I looked, it hadn't been pulled.
EDIT (for those who care):
Episode has been pulled from iTunes Canada. For Season 3, it goes right to episode 2.

Erasing history never erases the fact that it did happen. Nothing has been proven. People are watching this and accepting it as factual, because it is so well told it must be true. Make up your own minds. I'll eat these words if it is ever proven to be true, but until then I remain watching from a distance. Good post. I'm not against morality, but all of this 'retroactive moralizing' is getting old, and does help make it harder for people to look at these events with any type of critical judgement, simply falling into the trap of accepting as unquestionably true whatever those with an agenda persuade them is fact.

Al Jean: "What saddens me is, if you watch that documentary—which I did, and several of us here did—and you watch that episode, honestly, it looks like the episode was used by Michael Jackson for something other than what we’d intended it. It wasn’t just a comedy to him, it was something that was used as a tool. And I strongly believe that... It’s why I think removing it is appropriate. Though it's one of the most successful things I ever did, pulling it now was the right move. It was part of what he [Jackson] used to groom boys. I really don’t know, and I should be very careful because this is not something I know personally, but as far as what I think, that’s what I think, and that makes me very, very sad." So Michael would tell kids that he was in a SIMPSONS episode to lure them into his house and watch it? Even though they could watch it at home? Even though him being Michael Jackson was already reason enough for a kid to want to go to his house? Even though Michael used a pseudonym and the producers didn't confirm that it was him doing the voice until a couple of years later?Agree with this (the bolded part), and even if Jean seriously thinks this, it doesn't really explain why the episode would be pulled now, since Jackson is dead and certainly not likely to be using it as a 'recruiting tool, or anything else. If Jean simply now finds the episode repugnant for personal reasons, or just wants to jump on the current bandwagon of being #HolierThanThou (popular in the entertainment industry right about now), fine--but man up and say so, rather than proffer some limp rationalization about what he surmises--not knows, but guesses (on the basis of what evidence?)--Jackson was supposedly doing in regard to it.

It's no different than old cartoons not being re-aired in the 80's, 90's, etc for various reasons.
I remember some Gumby episodes being pulled from rotation (and later DVD releases) because of the inclusion of "Indians".
Or a small scene from The Wonder Years that showed marijuana.
And how about some of the cut material from The Ren & Stimpy Show?
This has been going on for a long time now.
It certainly didn't just begin like many seem to believe.

Most of those examples are things that even back then were considered inappropriate topics for children. Others are things that are politically incorrect in retrospestive. There's nothing inappropriate or politically incorrect in the content of this episode.

I understand your comment about content. However, I see the reason behind the cuts from the Simpsons episode as the same reason for cutting scenes from Gumby that featured "Indians". It wasn't politically incorrect from the get-go, but it became it in time. Therefore, in a way, it is the same as some of the cuts that have been made from shows well before this millennium began. Over the last 10 years or so everyone's been going apey over every thing and pretending like the "good old days" were less strict, which is not true.
