This is the closest board for a question/discussion I can find for what you guys think about some mysteries I baffle me (not to hard to do):
1. JFK assassination. Do you believe the official version (Oswald, by himself) or do you think there's more(very much more). I'll go to my grave thinking there is very much more.
2.Bigfoot. Real or not. Use to believe, but it's everywhere (statewise). I'm open minded but skeptical.
3. UFOs from space (or another time). There is so many sightings, from thousands of people, so there is something there. But what it, is I have no clue.
4. Shroud of Turin. Is it the burial shroud from Jesus. Supposedly it was proven not to be, but the believers say it was tested from a newer patch that had been used to repair it.
5. The Exorcist. Is it a true story based a boy that was possessed? No.
6. The Bell Witch. Is it a real story (like the movie with Donald Sutherland and Sissy Spacek.) The movie said it was the first time a ghost killed someone that could be proven. No.
7. Jack the Ripper. It probably will never be solved .It is mostly thought to be by someone never mentioned, Of the suspects, I can't think of one except of Frances Tumblety
8. Loch Ness Monster. Is it real? I think something (big) was there at some time (not a dinosaur) but it is gone.
I know I have been forgetting some things, but probably it'll be a bust anyway.

1. Yes, I believe the official version.
2. Not real. Honestly this one is a bit of a no-brainer for me. All these years and no blood sample we could look at the DNA of. No Bigfoot body. Not even a really good quality photograph of them - and this in an age where there are hundreds of millions of cameras around.
3. I am actually on a big UFO nostalgia kick lately. As a kid they fascinated me, but as I grew up I got uber skeptical and really dropped the whole thing. But the stories are fun and the topic is interesting, so I've been getting into it again lately. I'm willing to be convinced, but honestly the behaviour of the UFOs seem strange to me. If they wanted us to know they're here, they could surely make it obvious. And if they don't want us to know... why are there so many sightings, crashes, etc? Are they really so incompetent as that?
4. Nope. Was tested and proved to be a fake, and I don't care how much believers like to howl about that.
5. Agreed, no. I see no reason to believe that anybody is possessed.
6. Never heard of it.
7. I'm no ripper fan, so I don't know much about it. I doubt we will ever know - we're too far away. There are just too many conflicting theories and arguments, it's muddied the water completely. Short of somebody discovering a long lost diary of the actual guy, along with proof (blood smears on it with victim's DNA!) I don't think we will ever know.
8. No. I saw some research on this once - the terrain around the Loch is peat, which leaches into the water and makes it very dark, almost black. As a result, there's very little vegetation in the loch and so very little life. Somebody worked out the biomass for the apex predators (seals) in the Loch and found that it's like five tons. An even higher predator would be less massive still, so even one Nessie is unlikely (you can't have just one of anything unless it's about to die out!) - and a breeding family of Nessies massing a lot less than five tons in total? Impossible.

1. After watching a recent show about the possibility that a rookie FBI agent accidentally shot JFK I don't know what to believe happened. 2. I don't believe there is such a creature as Bigfoot. 3. I don't believe that any UFOs have extraterrestrial involvement. 4. Based on a show I saw on the subject, I don't believe that the Shroud of Turin is legitimate. 5. I haven't investigated whether or not the movie The Exorcist is based on a true story so I can't comment. 6. Based on a show I saw, the poltergeist referred to in the movie is based on a true story. 7. Based on a non-fiction work by Patricia Cornwell, I think the painter Walter Sickert is as likely a candidate to have been Jack the Ripper as any proposed. 8. I don't believe in the Loch Ness Monster.

1. I believe the official version. 2. There may have been a Bigfoot once, but I don't think so now. 3. I believe in UFOs, and the possibility that they're extraterrestrial. 4. It might have been someone's shroud, but probably not Jesus. 5. Don't know. Probably just had "based on a true story" tagged on it to get a bigger audience. 6. See Answer 5. 7. Could've been anyone. I guess we will never ever know for sure. 8. No.

1. No, I don't believe the official version. Oswald was a dupe. There were definitely others involved including Jack Ruby who had ties to the Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency.
2. Bigfoot most likely exists. Too many credible witnesses have seen these creatures. As for evidence, hair samples and DNA has been found. See the MonsterQuest episode titled 'Sasquatch Attack?' (2007); DNA from "an unknown primate" was found in Canada.
3. Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) certainly exist but what they are remains a mystery. Are UFOs from earth, outer space or another dimension? Your guess is as good as mine.
4. Don't know enough about it to have an opinion.
5. Maybe. But what the Church considers "demonic possession" may just be some kind of psychological disorder.
6. See # 4.
7. I doubt they'll ever know for sure who Jack The Ripper was.
8. Nessie might be for real, but like Bigfoot, Nessie must have a Mom and Dad so there's obviously more than one lake monster out there, perhaps a small population of them.

Well there is also the Conspiracy section for 'GENRE' but as for your OP:
1) Oswald did the deed but I did always suspect something behind the scenes was afoot.
2) Used to believe but am skeptical.
3) Open minded but a lot of the 'evidence' doesn't impress me.
4) Unsure of that. I'm gonna watch that upcoming documentary about it on Easter.
5) Nope.
6) Nope.
7) Francis Tumblety or David Cohen
8) Nope.

My issue with that is that you can't really have a small population of anything - if you do it'll be inbred to extinction in a few generations. There's all sorts of factors that work into the minimum viable population of a given species, but you're certainly looking at a number that runs into the low thousands. Does anybody here seriously believe that two thousand dinosaur-sized creatures could go undetected in a Loch that's only a mile or two wide and twenty five miles long? It's like a hundred creatures per square mile! You wouldn't have to wait twenty minutes to be guaranteed a sighting!

1.) No. I don't believe the "official version".
2.) Nowadays, a bigfoot creature? No.
3.) UFO stuff? Nah. I'd be more inclined to accept the UFO sightings and speculations if they'd been going on since ancient times,--yes, I know that there's a case for that and for other earlier periods as well--and the dramatic rise of sightings since the last world war makes me a skeptic.
4.) The Shroud Of Turin. A maybe. It's not a topic that draws me in.
5.) I don't believe in demonic possession, so no. To be fair, I respect the sincerity of those who do.
6.) No, I'm not a witch guy.
7.) I believe that the true identity of Jack the Ripper, assuming that it was one man, is a mystery, and one which I doubt shall ever be solved to the satisfaction of crime experts and professionals.
8.) I feel pretty much the same about 'Nessie as I do about Bigfoot: once upon a time, maybe. Today, no.
