It's a pretty poor movie but it's one of those I enjoy.

It's a pretty poor movie but it's one of those I enjoy. It has a lot going for it but is a bit disjointed at times and the lead female is not very good, her line readings are so robotic

MICKEY ROURKE worked in the worst/average films of the best directors of all time.

I recall that one. -- Mickey plays a tough New York cop doing battle against a vicious street gang who have already murdered his wife and assassinated his partner.
-- But when he discovers (several days after the event) that they also raped his mistress ... only THEN does he angrily declare:
-- "Now, they've gone TOO far!"

Well, it is getting sort of old, and I know that is the only criteria needed by some to apply the term "classic" but I tend to be more restrictive.
Vincent Canby predicted in The New York Times: "Year of the Dragon is light years away from being a classic, but then it makes no pretense at being anything more than what it is — an elaborately produced gangster film that isn't boring for a minute, composed of excesses in behavior, language and visual effects that, eventually, exert their own hypnotic effect."
