It’s shit.
(I was 18 when it first came out — smack dab in the demographic sweet spot. Thought it was stupid back then, too.)

Great movie, but Halloween is still the one and only best!

I still like it, one of the best slashers. I even thought Part 2 was just as good, but after that the rest of the sequels got tiresome.

I wouldn't even say it's my favorite F13th movie let alone slasher film........and I prefer THE BURNING to all the F13ths.
But yes, none are in the same stratosphere as HALLOWEEN (1978).
That said, people would do well to watch more Mario Bava and Sergio Martino movies ahead of the F13th series and their ilk.

I like it. It's probably the best film in the series in that it laid the groundwork and created 'the formula' for the rest of the series. And from a technical standpoint, I think it stands out from the other Friday films. Part 3 is still my favorite though - same formula just with more interesting characters and creative kills...oh yeah, and the 3D is amazing esp. on the big screen. After Part 3, the series began to lose steam and Jason became just another predictable horror movie villain. That said, Part 5 at least has an interesting twist and Jason Takes Manhattan (Part 8) is a fun, tongue-in-cheek Friday film.

I always liked it though I thought Part 2 was better than the originial.
For me the series culminated in Part 4 and then everything else (while still enjoyable particularly #6 -Jason Lives) becomes sort of sequelitis of you just watch them because you've seen the other ones.

Necessary viewing every June. Something about that time of year always puts me in the mood.

It truly is an iconic little horror flick - the ancestor of all the subsequent summer camp slashers that were to come. A bit slow-paced at times, but there's a nice creepy atmosphere in those woodlands and Betsy Palmer delivers a starkly unnerving performance as the unhinged Pamela Vorhees. The ending caught me off guard.

Part 3 is my favorite of the series, but I don't think the original is too bad. Halloween is still my favorite slasher movie though.

I always liked it. The only Friday that successfully pulls some mystery into the mix. Several red herrings to go around.
Nightmare on elm Street is my favorite slasher tho.

Now that I've seen A Bay of Blood some of the sheen has worn off the old girl. But I still love her. Mrs. Voorhees is wonderfully insane. The gore is plentiful. I like Part 2 for really branching out and giving us an even scarier baddie. That freakin' score would never be wasted on a slasher movie in this era.

I think it was a good movie and have re-watched it a number of times over the years and still enjoyed it but for me the 'Friday the 13th' movies didn't take off until 'Friday the 13th 2' when they introduced the adult Jason Vorhees and it was Jason who went on to become the main star of the franchise and make the movies memorable. I don't think the first movie would be that popular today if it had stood on its own without the sequels.
