He hasn't released a film in a number of years. Has he decided to retire?
Personally, I was never a fan of his movies, except for the early ones, like BANANAS. And he's clearly too old to play the oversexed nebbish he played in his earlier films.
And could somebody please refresh my memory? Some 30+ years ago, there was a movie compilation consisting of five separate shorts made by different directors. Their common thread was they all took place in NYC. Woody Allen's was the last one, and it was--well--typically Woody Allen!
Thank you, fellow posters.

Well, it's only two years since his last film. There's supposed to be one coming out called A Rainy Day in New York, but I am not sure what is happening about it. As he is now in his eighties I assume he's slowing down a bit. Think the film you are thinking of is New York Stories.

The whole NME post Sorry, but my browser can't open that link. Can someone tell me why that movie was shelved? Maybe it IS time for Woody to retire.

Woody Allen’s unreleased film A Rainy Day in New York has been indefinitely shelved by Amazon Studios, meaning that it’s likely that the movie will never be released. The filmmaker’s latest project had already attracted criticism for its apparent depiction of an “inappropriate” relationship between Elle Fanning and Jude Law’s characters. Despite the controversy, A Rainy Day in New York was expected to premiere later this year as part of Allen’s five-film deal with Amazon, which was signed in 2016. However, the studios have now decided to drop the film indefinitely, confirming today (August 30) that “no release date has ever been set”. Maybe his many still loyal fans should consider crowd funding a release - Wonder what Amazon would charge to unload it? (presumably they own distribution rights).
Amazed that some of the stars are "regretting" their involvement in RAINY DAYS - and by "stars" I mean spineless lightweights who pay too much attention to online nonsense and/or what their agent/PR person tells them - the allegations against Allen are approaching their 30th birthday forcrissake - older than Selena Gomez I believe - (yet with no charges brought against him or arrest) . Are these "stars" - Gomez, Chalamet, Rebecca Hall etc claiming they had not heard the tom toms prior to participating in the movie ? That is ludicrous. If they had reservations maybe they should not have signed on to begin with.
To respond in kind I personally will never watch another Timothee Chalamet movie ever again (this is, after all, the guy made his name in a movie about an "inappropriate relationship" CALL ME BY YOUR NAME*)..... and I "deeply regret" watching the ones I have...
At least Jude Law appears to have retained his cojones and convictions.....Jude Law "shame movie isn't getting released" Ok well at least he isn't "ruling out" working with Woody again (assuming he gets asked).
And Elle Fanning refused to apologize - Go girl! Elle unrepentant
Oh yeah - and there is also a $68,000,000 lawsuit flying around - central to which is the argument that Amazon knew about the allegations when they set the deal up - which they must have - just in case anyone thought this was getting dull Lawsuit
* I know Armie Hammer age difference with Chalamet in that (11 years) much less than Woody's and - say - Mariel Hemingway's in MANHATTAN (26 years) - but I think the latter a far healthier partnership and far less "predatory".

Sorry snsurone sometimes those things happens, so here is the complete text: Woody Allen’s unreleased film A Rainy Day in New York has been indefinitely shelved by Amazon Studios, meaning that it’s likely that the movie will never be released. However, the studios have now decided to drop the film indefinitely, confirming today (August 30) that “no release date has ever been set”. Reportedly costing the studios $25 million, the film may now never be released. Its cast also included Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez, who have both expressed their regret this year over working on the film. Chalamet pledged to donate his salary for the film to charity, with Gomez following suit. //

Did they say what the inappropriateness was? Elle Fanning turned 20 in the spring 2018 when the film was shooting. Was her character supposed to be younger?

Well, from what you folks have said, this movie is pure, unadulterated GARBAGE!
And Woody Allen is still obsessed with sex!

New York Stories (1989) was the movie in which Allen directed one of three stories. His was about a lawyer having problems with his mother.
