while amazingly acted and visually attractive and having a very good score, this movie has One target audiance: older and ideally also divorced (from husbands and reality) women.
since i am neither i found it Very boring and Extremelly slow.
Juliane Moore and John Torturro are both so attractive and talented that they kept me from walking out, but man it dragged.
Its a nice character study of what life “might” be like for an older divorcee, and if you enjoy very slow movies with very little narrative, this one is for you.
While I loved A Ghost Story which is similarly minimalistic I really had trouble enjoying Gloria Bell.
I give it 5/10 for the acting and music.

oh yeah, the nudity is another plus, Juliane Moore shows her breasts on camera at least 4 times and the camera does not shy away from it, so you get to enjoy her beauty a lot. Its def not a comedy. And more than a drama its a character study. with some slightly dramatic moments. its a melancholic character study that flows very slowly and where the main protagonist acts and looks like she is on downers all the tone. Nothing like the trailer promises (sparkling hyper energetic drama with a vibrant lively woman as the lead)

That's a shame. I was kind of looking forward to it, after watching the previews. I know that I saw the original but I have very little recollection of it. I just checked on that old site where people used to discuss and rate movies and I saw that I rated it a 6, which means I didn't like it very much (my rating system is seriously screwed up).

I am with you, I was also looking forward to it a lot. But it was just too slow and dialogue/narrative less. I couldnt get into it, I couldnt relate to anything on the screen, I wasnt amused by it, there was just nothing for me. BUT, I can totally see how women 50 plus and/or divorced women might dig it. It does have that "free spirit/liberation in older age" vibe to it. plus Juliane More is so hot. Its crazy. I loved the nude scenes with her of course but even her bare face is enticing.

GLORIA BELL is almost a word-for-word remake of GLORIA. You're probably thinking "Duh! Why would you expect something different when the writer/director is the same person?" Well, Sebastián Lelio claimed that it was going to be a reimagining. If he had been honest, I might been more forgiving, but this form of redundancy results in boredom. These are the only memorable differences: 1) The way the end credits are shown is disappointingly more standard. 2) There's no peacock, which is an improvement. Symbolism doesn't work if you halt the plot to bring a being/object out of nowhere that feels out of place, because then the viewer is too aware of it. 3) The title character's vagina isn't shown. Not that I need to see that. It's just weird to recreate almost all of the shots only to change that one meaningless detail. Julianne Moore's performance is good, but she was miscast. The protagonist is supposed to be a divorced woman with grown-up children getting close to old age, for whom getting a boyfriend isn't impossible but also not "I snap my fingers and it'll come true" easy. She's afraid of being alone for the rest of her life and she feels that she doesn't have a lot of time left to find love again. All of this worked when she was played by Paulina García. She's by no means ugly, but also not what you'd call conventionally attractive. And you can tell how old she is. Moore is prettier and looks younger (despite being the same age), so I don't buy that she would have the same worries. At least not the point where she would want to hold on to her youth for as long as possible. 3/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.
