I watched Aquaman a few days ago and it was a pretty exciting movie with amazing action. Captain Marvel is no where near exiting and action doesn’t even compare. I even think Arthur had a better arc than Carol.
I’ve actually been seeing people giving Captain Marvel a pass simply because of what it represent. Could that be the reason?

Captain Marvel is a cleaner, more efficient and better put together movie. Aquaman has higher highs but it also has lower lows. Personally I liked Aquaman more, but I can also criticize more things in Aquaman than in CM. That said, I do think the RT score for Aquaman is a bit unfair. It should have at least been in the 70's.

I found the hero fun to watch, the girl endearing and the underwater setting fascinating and the villains passable. I was chuffed when I guessed the mother wasn't dead and turned out to be right.
From what I've seen a lot of the people dissing CM haven't even seen it and it's just a political issue to them.

I had issues with BP-flow. Several spots could have been shaved to make it tighter, but it felt like they were MAKING A STATEMENT. I don't need that from movies, thank you. While it wasn't MAKING A STATEMENT, Aquaman felt similarly flow-impaired. Like the city in Greece or Rome or wherever it was. All I could think was those poor residents didnt look rich or anything & these idiots are smashing through their ceilings. Not like Arthur had Tony Stark sort of bucks to pay them back. The desert scene also felt out of place. I had no problem with CM in that respect. There was no issue in story progress. It's a tighter movie.

Didn't Atlantis remind you a smidge of Asgard? It's the ocean. What the puck do we have a bridge for?

Hehehe, I think the depths of the ocean are more interesting than space, there's all that life and still stuff we don't know about down there. Space is kinda dead and cold by comparison and I've seen so many stories set there I found the deep blue a fascinating setting.

I just realized I didn't complete my comment. Add:
It wouldn't surprise me if some were more complementary because of politics or other influences either.

To be fair, it also feels like the DC fanboys are so desperate for a good movie when one comes along, they see it multiple times (yes, I saw Thor 8 times. Avengers...5?)

To be fair, it also feels like the DC fanboys are so desperate for a good movie when one comes along, they see it multiple times (yes, I saw Thor 8 times. Avengers...5?) That may very well be true. I've watched this whole rivalry percolate since the Nineties on usenet, while I seldom participated I'd sometimes pop over to read a few boards to kinda keep track of what was happening in comics, at least for a while, not unlike how my mother still scans Soap Opera Digest to keep up with her shows she seldom has time to watch anymore. Then I observed the whole campaign to get TDKR to the top of the IMDB ratings as it would bubble over to other boards I followed. Going from this board it doesn't seem likely to end anytime soon.
It would hardly surprise me that people who would spend all day every day arguing for their 'sect' might go on religious pilgrimages when one of their deities makes an appearance!
I've gone out to see several more than once, usually once at the opening and another at the cheapo theater in the neighborhood where the concessions are more reasonable too. Then I'll get the Blu-ray so I can binge some before another installment comes out.

Neither were great, but with Aquaman the scope at least felt bigger, the visuals were stronger, and color scheme was much more vibrant, the action was also better handled and more immersive. Both were pretty clunky, but Aquaman seemed to embrace that aspect a bit more.

I'm not. Captain Marvel was great while Aquaman was just good. Captain Marvel is awful. The first half of the movie keeps jumping from 1 place to another place and is just a disjointed and convoluted mess. Brie Larson's performance is wooden and robotic. There's no character development or personality to the Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel character. There are no epic or memorable scenes like the No Man's Land scene in Wonder Woman. And nothing happens in this movie that you need to see for Endgame.

You made this clear with your stupid comment about 'why didn't the local cops arrest Danvers at the Blockbuster before calling S.H.I.E.L.D.' Stop criticizing movies you haven't even fucking seen, fraud.
