Thanks to the Mercedes McCambridge thread, I find myself forced to view Johnny Guitar immediately. Luckily, I've located it on the internet. The IMDB trivia on this movie is fascinating. Joan Crawford was so jealous of Mercedes McCambridge she had her costumes strewn along the highway! McCambridge recalls her movie dryspell after this movie was because of Crawford blacklisting her all over Hollywood! What scandalocity!

Sterling Hayden couldn't ride a horse or shoot a gun or even play guitar...naturally, he was the perfect choice! He hated this movie and Joan Crawford.

"They put string, like you get at the grocery store, over my guitar in case I accidentally hit them," he said, acknowledging that "I can't play guitar, and can't sing a good-goddamn, either."

The critic Dennis Schwartz recalls: "Francois Truffaut said it reminded him of 'The Beauty and the Beast,' with Sterling Hayden being the beauty." Now that's just bein' mean ! (even if it is true)

Crawford's name is "Vienna," like the sausage.
There's also a character named "Turkey."

"Joan Crawford insisted on her close-ups only being filmed in the studio, where the lighting could be rigidly controlled. No close-up of her was ever shot while on location."

In scenes where the horses rode near a waterfall, they were fitted with blinders. The animals were so afraid of the waterfall that they wouldn't go near it without the blinders on.
Actually that's not a bad idea while watching this movie !
