Dang! Now I've missed my chance to tell him I'M NOT A PROTESTANT! I'M NONDENOMINATIONAL!
He'll probably be back. Seems like he's pulled this kind of thing before.

That's a shame... It seems like he was becoming a normal poster.

That forsaken land called politics board proved too toxic for him. He should stay on the sports board and maybe the religion board. Hope he returns soon.

Maybe you do because you are among the villains here while not so on the politics board. I agree with what you said but not everyone can develop a resistance to toxicity. I know that Father jack can't. He is too emotional. May be he should just stick to Sports board.

Neither spot is particularly known for fair and balanced discussions. If I'm a villain here I'm a villain on the Politics board too.

That's a pity, he was a good contributor to this board. I think when people get frustrated with this or that board they should take a break, not self-delete. Oh well.

See his thread on the sports board. If he deleted his account how can you see his thread?

See his thread on the sports board. If he deleted his account how can you see his thread? I think because if you self-delete your account, the posts remain in the flow of conversation with a notation that the poster in no longer there, and you can't read their profile of recent posts in order. Now, a poster can go in and physically delete every post they ever made, then self-delete, and no posts are visible again, I think. If I am inaccurate, perhaps Admin can clarify. I often wondered if there could be a category, or a thread, where frustrated posters could air their grievances and others could empathize. I've gotten close to self-deletion twice, but took a break instead, or put a troublesome poster on "Block". I still have some hope that discussion boards might eventually produce a more tolerant society, but sometimes I think it is hopeless.

The thing is that once a member self deletes then his or her username turns to initial registration name. So you wouldn't find threads started by "father Jack" but you will find threads started by "fjh". Now fjh was his registration name.
Here is his goodbye thread on the sports board.

Thanks for the link, AJ, I went to that thread and left a post hoping to persuade him to come back. I know how he feels - I've considered self-deletion a few times, too.

The idea should be to not get drawn into long & endless conversations. I have had them before and I know it becomes agonizing. That very thing was happening with father Jack. He wrote something and some people started deriding him. It went on and on. Now, this is internet and there are a hell lot of people who post here just for shits & giggles. They don't even care that some people actually mean to be serious and want to convey a serious thought that they think may help humanity. Old Sam Vimes for example even agrees that he posts things for fun and many times doesn't even agree with things he writes himself. And some others could actually mean what they write and what they write maybe something nasty. There's a lot of those 2 types on politics board and even here. For past sometime, I have not even tried to get into an argument. If someone says something that I believe is unreasonable then I just move on. Father Jack should have done that too though I don't blame him for being a human.

Therein lies the difference. Father Jack seemed to be one of the genuine ones that cared about his fellow man, and animals. I never thought I would bond with a Roman Catholic, being the Agnostic Atheist that I am, but he and I were the only vegan/vegetarians on here (that I knew of) and that sincere concern for both man and animal was a positive thing.

Thanks for the link. I guess I forgot that the registration name can be different from what one is using. I have always had the same name both here and on the old board.
