I posted off topic on another thread. But it really got me thinking. These things really annoy me.
Most common Hollywood cliches, especially with TV shows are
-One taking their soon-to-be ex to an expensive restaurant to break up. Nobody does that. For obvious reasons. Cheesy setup for embarrassing scene.
-One leaving the door open or unlocked when having sex or using the bathroom. Nobody does that in real life. Cheesy setup for embarrassing scene.
-One leaving door to home unlocked and people just walking in and out without ringing or knocking. Nobody does that in real life. Cheesy way to save time.
-One leaving curtains, shades and blinds open at night in big city. Often buildings can be seen in background. (Often scene includes nudity and/or sex.) Nobody does that in real life. Cheesy result of lazy scene setup (no attention to detail).
I know some people feel we just have to allow it because it's just a TV show or movie. But it really aggravates me.
They spend millions on production. How hard would it be to get these things right?
What do you think? Do these things aggravate you?

But for the two you didn't completely agree on, the living arrangements are two or more people living in the house. Or more than one person home when the sex or bathroom use starts. I live on a street with about 2 miles of apartments and condos. When I go for a walk at night, everybody's curtains, shades and blinds are closed. I also drive for Uber and Lyft at night. Nobody's window treatments are open.

1. is done in order to hopefuly stop the woman from making a scene - in public fancy setting they are less inclined to do so. Its a jerk move but it is done.
2. We knock in our place before entering another room so very little locking going on, but I see your point and agree, its overused.
3. this I Never saw in Europe and was alwaya wondering “wtf” when watching Seinfeld or Friends. Then I moved to the US where I do see it here and there and especially outside of NYC I did see it much more (and did it occasionaly myself in my house).
4. I see this all over! If I look outside my window in the evening barely anybody has blinds on. Its crazy. Again in europe this would be unthinkable but in the US I see it a lot.
So I guess it depends where you live?

Thanks for responding. But I never see these things in real life 1) Everybody I know breaks up in private. 2) Everybody I know closes and locks the door before using the bathroom or having sex. 3) Everybody I know in the city locks their door and expects visitors to ring doorbell or knock. 4) Everywhere I go at night (in the city) closes their window treatments at night for privacy. Maybe in the country they do things differently. But the scenes I am complaining about take place in cities.

To me thats cringeworthy. I already posted about this before so sorry for repeating. but it gets me. Same with women wearing bras in bed during sex. I know the nipple is something like hitler in the US movies, I know, but still, Who does that. Its so annoying. So find a diff angle.

Or a woman is home alone, when she gets out of the shower or bath, she covers up. "You're home alone. Why are you covering up?" Americans will tolerate any amount of violence on TV or in movies. I live in Germany, but some people in my street don't even have curtains. It's a bit bizzarre, if you walk by their house in the dark you can see everything that's going on. You can see them cooking in the kitchen or sitting in front of the TV. It's almost like they are putting themselves on display trying to show everyone what a nice home they have.

Some people don't like to feel closed in by curtains. I guess you're supposed be polite and refrain from gawking. Open windows might be a great idea in the country but not so much in the city. In New York City there are newer apartments where the outer wall is one huge window. You can see the whole room at night because few occupants close their drapes. There are gawkers. One guy I know owns a telescope and uses it to look at his neighbors as well as celestial objects. Some of the objects of his observation own telescopes as well and are probably looking back at him.

Absolutely. I see all the time on movies and TV shows people lounging, watching TV, talking, cooking, having sex, taking showers, baths and walking around naked with window treatments wide open. I live on a street that is about two miles of apartments and condos. When I go for a walk at night, 95 percent of all windows have closed window treatments. All on the first floor. Most on the second floor. Occasionally I see an open window treatment with the TV on. But I cannot see people. On movies and TV shows the angles of the open window treatments and surrounding buildings is one where the people and what they are doing is fully visible.

In movies and TV open windows make the scene more dramatic. A sex scene is more racy if there is the possibility of observers. Of course we the viewers are observing. In a large city people probably figure they are one among millions and aren't going to be the object of anyone's undivided attention.

Censorship rules prohibit nudity. Some actors have no-nudity clauses in their contract. Showtime TV network is OK with nudity, but Claire Danes usually isn't, and all her sex scenes in "Homeland" have her wearing a bra. If the director wants nudity badly enough he'll hire someone other than Danes.

They also had twin beds for couples, which looks silly today.

And if those people walk around naked, or have sex without closing their curtains, they are exibitionists. I would be extremely uncomfortable in their apartment at night. And I would, and could never walk around naked or have sex in their apartment without closing the curtains.
