If they reference Batman Forever, the internet will lose its collective mind.

Discussing Film is reporting that The Batman will take place in the '90s and will revolve around Batman trying to crack a mystery which brings the hero back to his detective roots. Reeves is currently finishing up the screenplay after doing additional rewrites to include more action to service the story. The report also says that Reeves and DC "will most likely not go for an unknown actor." As with casting a younger Bruce Wayne, they're also looking to cast younger versions of James Gordon and Alfred Pennyworth, who have always been integral to any Batman story.

Hopefuly they capture the animated series vibe. A good start would be making Gotham City a real distinct, living-breathing city with its own uniqueness. One of the things Burton did so well is create a Gotham City with a personality and identity. As much as Nolan did good, him taking away that and just having plain old Chicago ruined the atmosphere of Batman a little.
