It's all about special effects and the dinos. They could put out a two hour movie showing a day in the life of the dinos and fans would still probably flock to see it.

Yes because then we'd be robbed of so much memetic dialogue.

Of course. Part of the reason why I hated Jurassic Park was that I couldn't stand that film's lifeless characters (Chris Pratt was OK) and found watching their interactions painful to observe.
That was never a problem in the older films. Grant and Malcolm and the like were engaging and dynamic personalities that one could really root for and care about. There were obviously some figures who were there purely to act as dino-fodder, but getting the main cast right was a crucial aspect in allowing those films to flourish.

Of course. That's why Jurassic park III sucks, a bunch of forgettable characters.

In the first one, sure. Not since then.

Honestly, not really. But it helps if they're acted well and/or have some character background and development. If you really think about it, there's not much character development in even the first film. These movies are really more about the dinosaurs and spectacle.

Why Jaws will always be better than any other 'monster' movie.
Robert Shaw. Richard Dreyfuss. Roy Scheider.
Nothing wrong with a monster movie like the Jurassic films, though. They are good summer popcorn flicks.
But no CGI, at least any time soon, will replace great actors.

Yep even all the people in the control room I remember caring about when I first saw the movie Wayne Knight Samuel l the Australian dude

OK OK... I'll admit that Julianne Moore is one of my celeb crushes. So just her and no one else. That's it.

There was more dialog to like sitting around bored in the boat drinking and sharing battle scars and telling shark tales. Both franchises are similar. Have a good first movie then follow it up with a bunch of meh to crappy rinse and repeat sequels which doesn't really offer anything new. They all should have quit while they were ahead.

Yes.
The human characters are why the first movie is good, because we care what happens to them and that adds to the suspense of the movie.

Yes, definitely.
Part of the reason the original JP holds up better than most blockbusters is because you care about Dr. Grant, Ellie Sattler, Ian Malcolm, John Hammond and even the kids. Some of my fave parts of the flick are the non-dino bits like when Grant shows the snobby kid the velociraptor's claw or Malcolm and Ellie questioning Hammond's methods.

Like others have said, the first movie is great because of the human aspect. You actually cared for the characters.
I even had a bit of fun with the characters in the sequels.
