I'm not fan of Hereditary, just overrated and has dislikable characters with no personality and mediocre writing, i'm no fan of A24 but at least they try to do something different but fail in my opinion.Now Quiet Place and Mandy are 2018 horror films i like better than that! i mean they have likable characters i give a damn about and all that. The acting was good in US and had some decent thrills and ideas but went off the rails with the dumb twist and ending, Get Out was much better. I do appreciate audiences are making US a hit and it's doing something different in the mainstream horror genre, it's at least something different than another pointless remake like Poltergeist, another book adaptation like IT, another sequel/remake/reboot of an already dead horse franchise (Halloween or Elm Street or Friday The 13th or Saw or Scream or Texas Chainsaw Massacre) as it's something different even in mainstream horror๏ปฟ They are hit or miss with me, but probably mostly miss. Their movies have this way of being rather bland no matter what happens on screen. It could be something exciting or something that is supposed to be jarring - like a headless corpse floating up to the treehouse Hereditary โ which is comes also anti-climatic. Ex Machina, The Witch, and the Disaster Artist were good though. I liked The Lobster too from what I remember of. They make a lot of boring horror movies IMO. The Disaster Artist i liked but Witch i thought was overrated and one of my worst films of 2016 but it tried, they just need to try again. Ex Machina was overrated and pretentious, i'll take Blade Runner 1 and 2 over that which dealt with the themes better. A24 just needs to try again.

Not that good. Only thing scary about the film , it apparently an alternate reality in America where a liberal President took away all the guns , and the scissor people took over.

And yes this is the times of the SJWs we live in. ALL black cast, always good. Black director, always good, PC gay characters, always good! I don't recall anyone defending Meteor Man or the recent Girls Trip (films with mostly black casts) as being good.
People liked the film because it was doing something different from the usual generic slasher sequels or found footage horror stuff that passes for horror. Movies that take an unconventional path and have an ambiguous ending are a plus in my book.
Also, people who complain about so-called SJWs and take issue with entertainment featuring minorities annoy me to no end.

I watched Halloween 2018 last night and Karen Strode's husband Frank was the same; utterly clueless, not facing or believing the seriousness of the threat/situation.
I was the only person in my showing of Us. It's a smaller cinema, 5 screens, but comfortable seats, clean and cheap. $5.50 all showings. They have a HOUSE OF THE DEAD arcade machine too!๐
I remember you saying you only watch movies in theater. Man I could not do that!! I look at it like a treat and I really really like my home collection. Being able revisit my favorites again and again. Collecting steelbooks, having a physical copy.
Anyway in Us, how did the dad Gabe kill his dopplganger exactly? I could not make out whatever move he did he did it so fast. Did he kick the outboard motor up and the rotor blade gored Abraham?
To me, there is a lot of good discussion to be had on the movie, but as I'm on mobile I'll save for later.

I thought it was the rotor blade but its an assumption knly. Yes he was kinda emasculated however that seems to be the trend of many shows and movies lately. I just realized yesterday that in Santa Clarita (a show that I love) there is not a single man that wouldnt be completely dominated by one or more females. I still like the show but wonder if this girl power thing has not gone too far. I get its a compensation tool for all the decades of shows where all women were dominated by the men, but why do we have to go from extreme to antoher extreme? Anyway. Re Us - I agree its a movie worthy of a discussion and perhaps even a rewatch. I just wish it was either more scary or more funny. As for watching movies at home: even if i wanted to I simply wouldnt have the time to watch movies at home. I see 3-4 movies each week and then I watch shows at home. For me movies <b> belong </b> on a big screen. Wow 5.50! Nice! If I pay, the tickets here are 16-18 usd. 11-14 for Am hours sometimes. No way I could even get under 10... enjoy!! |
