it looks like tomorrow is my last chance to see this neo noir thriller by the director of Brawl in Block cell 99., S Craig Zahler. anybody saw? I am intrigued and wanna go but not sure I can make it... how hard should i try? I fucking loved it Nora. It's a long, dark, slow burn slice of seedy crime fiction which simmers with tension before exploding into savage violence at the end. Mel Gibson delivers arguably the performance of his career, Vince Vaughn also delivers the goods, Michael Jai White rocks as the doomed Biscuit and Tory Kittles nearly steals the show as the one vaguely likable character in the movie. Don Johnson knocks his cameo out of the park - as does Udo Kier, and Jennifer Carpenter is on fire as a recent mother who picks the wrong day to return to her job at the bank. The film is often darkly funny and the dialogue sizzles. This is Zahler's best film too date.
It is certainly not for all tastes and gives political correctness the middle finger, but it's a rare modern day flick aimed at adults and a must-see for genre buffs and kept my attention in vice like grip throughout its lengthy running time. My Rating: 8,5 out of 10.
In an age of bloated, formulaic CGI-laden super hero pics, this is a special treat for those of us who like our pulp fiction gritty, hard and down-and-dirty.

Sounds like his other two movies, so I’m in. He is an underrated talent at the moment.

Gibson & Vaughn work really well together . Just letting you know it is a LONG film (2 hours 40 minutes) so it could test your patience a bit.

Him or Ramsey should do Blood Meridian as well.

I can only imagine how great Bone Tomahawk and Brawl in Cell Block 99 would've been on a big screen.

Aaargh. good to see all the love for the director though.

Watched it earlier and all I can say is that it made me sad. Sad because it's a small movie with huge ambitions and a lot to say and yet it barely even made it to theaters and I was forced to watch it on my laptop screen at home. No, it's not a huge spectacle that requires a big screen, but it deserves a true theatrical release.
As for Zahler, this is his best movie. I get why people would not like his style, but it works for me *so* well. Every second of the movie is building to character interactions and decisions that become more and more urgent as it goes. It's just pure filmmaking in every way.
It's also worth mentioning that he has taken a massive step forward twice now. Brawl in Cell Block 99 is much better than Bone Tomahawk, and this is bigger and more confident than 'Brawl' in every way. Watch this movie.

I am going to be "that guy" and say yeah, too bad it didn't get a theatrical release and yet the story is yet another white man failure theme. Film Noir and crime used to have much more story variety. This review makes me laugh since the film is full of multicultural virtue signalling and suggests the nobility of criminals: www.nationalreview.com/2019/03/dragged-across-concrete-conservative-action-movie/

In my town, a lot of known movies never played at the 1 cinema in town. Or it was gone rather quickly. A few years ago I wanted to see Expendables 3 and would have had to go 15 miles to see it by bus (despite having 6 cinema screens in town now). Not worth it. Glad I waited for video.
