Wow.....That's awesome. the thing is that I have learned to like his character more and more as show progressed. He has all those qualities you don't want to admit to like but do want to possess yourself. The thing is that he is a master of manipulation and a self made man!

I'm quite surprised by this. I mean I think he's awesome obviously, but I didn't think he was that popular. I would have thought Tyrion or Jon for sure.

Every so often, mankind surprises me. I'm proud.

Looking back at the results of the "tournament", Jon Snow lost to Oberyn Martell with 46 to 54% (15000 votes) and Daenerys lost to Littlefinger with 40 to 60% (9000 votes). Oberyn then lost to Littlefinger with 36 to 64% (6000 votes). Tyrion then clearly lost to Littlefinger with 34 to 66% (5000 votes).Prior to this, Sansa had barely won over Arya (51/49%) before losing to Tyrion (45/55%). Cersei had also lost to Tywin (47/53%) who clearly lost to Tyrion (29/71%). I don't know what to make of it. I would like to say that thinkers crushed feelers or that the whitewashed heroes of the show have lost their appeal but it doesn't quite explain how Tyrion lost that badly after coming so far. The only plausible explanation is that Littlefinger has payed voters.

My initial surprise has diminished somewhat, I'm so used to Dany and Jon being hailed as the greatest characters that I just assume they're popular. But the people I hear it from are casual watchers, they are not the people who frequent forums and message boards. I suspect these are two completely different types of people. Forum lurkers and online inhabitants are likely to be drawn to different characters than casual watchers who spend their free time doing stuff with actual people. Out in the open I hear 'Dany' and 'Jon', online I hear 'Littlefinger' and 'Tywin'. Tyrion seems popular in both camps so I'm still surprised he lost by such a large number.

Tywin 29% - Tyrion 71% (5600 votes) Littlefinger 66% - Tyrion 34% (4700 votes) Why does it go one way then the other? Besides, having spent quite some time on IMDb, I know it was full of supporters of the Big Three and rather poor in contributions defending Littlefinger, yet he crushed every opponent in the polls. His lowest score was 60% against Daenerys (then 64% against Margaery and Oberyn, 65 against Tyrion, 69 against the Hound). One possible guess is that a large amount of people do not vote for their favourites but for those they expect to win. Many Daenerys supporters see the writing on the wall and expect her to die tragically in the last season. Jon and Tyrion are not even playing the game of thrones but Littlefinger is all about it.

I dunno, do you go on the site where this contest was posted a lot? What's the general feel for the characters there? I don't go on GoT forums much so most of my experience of character support is from unrelated forums where people talk about the show. I know there's a lot of love for Littlefinger and Tywin in certain personality type groups for example. Specific GoT forums I'd expect a more evenly distributed favouring of characters but still, I think the bigger a fan someone is and the more time they spend talking about the show, the more likely they are to choose characters other than the main ones. Tyrion beating Tywin makes perfect sense to me. Tyrion is a main character and he seems to cross the board when it come to popularity. Also Tyrion vs. Tywin is a grudge match, even Tywin fans may side with Tyrion when it comes down to a battle between the 2. Tyrion vs. Littlefinger is still confusing. I'm not sure who I would pick, perhaps I would pick Littlefinger because I (wrongly) assume that Tyrion has it in the bag so I want to give Littlefinger some points. But that can't be it in this case because he was obviously seen to beat some other popular characters throughout the voting. I think you may have been onto something earlier, he's been chucking coin around.
