During the Great Depression, a decorated veteran and retired Marine Corps major general named Smedley Butler levies the accusation against American business leaders plotting a takeover of the United States government in opposition of FDR's policies. A YT channel which I've fallen in love with has just posted one of those '90s A&E documentaries about it. For those curious.
The severity of Butler's accusations remain debated to this day. Interestingly enough, one of the accused plotters was one Prescott Bush, father and grandfather of presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. Cue the NWO conspiracy theorists in three, two, one. I did always find this particular case fascinating. As an aside, if you missed watching docs like this one, Peter David Documentaries and DocSpot are excellent sources on Youtube.

I have Butler's book, War is a Racket in paper back.
The Introduction of the version I have, is made by Adam Parfrey and he talks about it. The rest is the original content.
