I noticed in the coffee aisle that they don't sell coffee in those large metal coffee cans anymore. Now they're either made of plastic, or some sort of hard pressed cardboard. I liked the metal ones, with the plastic lids. Got lots of secondary use out of them.

It seems that way. I think somebody waved a magic wand and, "Poof!" - they were gone.

I've seen the big metal Yuban cans at Costco. But you're right, they came in handy. Are you sure they're metal? I saw some large coffee cans at the store last night that I thought were metal, but when I tapped them with my fingernail, I saw that they were actually a hardened cardboard. But thanks for the mention about the Yuban... I'll check it out in the store next time.
*enigma said that Hills Brothers still comes in metal cans at her bodega. I'll look into that one, too.

I just came back from my local Kroger-run store and noticed Yuban coffee on the shelf, but it's in plastic tubs, not cans. Looks like these:

My wife and I drink this regularly. Still comes in a metal container. It's good quality stuff too. They have a decaf and a French Roast as well but they are harder to find.

vegalyra: yes, good point. I did actually see that on the shelf of my local grocery store - but, it was a smaller-size can. Those cans, when empty, are useful, too, but the bigger ones (like in the photo in my OP of the Yuban can) would be ideal.

Chock Full o' Nuts coffee still comes in metal cans. It's the heavenly coffee, too.

I used to drink Nescafe, which came in a tin can, but I swapped over to Moccona, which comes in a glass jar, about 15 years ago.
