Tricky one; it's a toss up between Pleasance in YOLT and Savalas OHMSS. Both were excellent but Pleasance was instantly iconic in his reveal I feel that Savalas's performance just edges him out for me.

Eric Pohlmann in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE. We only heard Blofeld's voice or saw a hand rubbing a cat here and there. But his power remained unquestionable.

Speaking of Blofeld does anyone else find it funny that the actor who plays him in DAF is also a minor character in YOLT? When I watch those movies back to back I actually impose my own pseudo canon on the franchise by thinking of his Henderson character in YOLT twice as the real Blofeld that fakes his own death just to mislead Bond. I'm obsessive like that.

Yeah that is odd that, especially if you haven't watched either for a while, it's a bit confusing - I'm always expecting Henderson to attack Bond as him being Blofeld is on the back of my mind... Same thing happened with that guy in TLD - turned up again in the Brosnan films as the replacement Felix..

Of the "fully seen on camera" actors:
1. Savalas 2. Waltz 3. Pleasence 4. Gray
(Never Say Never Again isn't a "real" Bond movie, so I'm not considering Von Sydow -- whose part is barely more than a cameo, anyway.)

I love Telly Savalas as Blofeld so he's my favorite. Nevertheless, Eric Pohlmann/Anthony Dawson's version of Blofeld has its share of menace and threat even if it's just hands rubbing a Persian cat.

Telly was terrible. A Blofeld with an American accent? You clown. Nope. In the novels, Blofeld always changed his appearance and personality in each novel he appeared and they kept that for the films. Since Blofeld is in hiding after You Only Live Twice, why not change his European accent into an American one? Overall, it's the performance that matters, and Savalas made Blofeld feel physically menacing and a threat to both Bond and Tracy in the film.

Why would he pose as an American if he's trying to get the title of Count, you retard? I don't know. I was just theorizing. Blofeld wants the title of Count for pure vanity, and being vain is not exclusively based on one's nationality. I'm not nitpicky about accents. If I was, I would be blasting Sean Connery for playing a Russian submarine captain with a Scottish accent.

I was going to go with Telly Savalas's Blofeld--I agree with Archelaus that "...Savalas made Blofeld feel physically menacing and a threat to both Bond and Tracy in the film"--but, now that I think of it, I think politicidal is right on the money. My favorite Blofeld is the Anthony Dawson (body)/Eric Polhlmann (voice) characterization in From Russia with Love; he is (they are?) by far the creepiest and most menacing interpretation of the character.

Largo from Thunderball is how I envision the best Blofeld... which I suppose adds to the swerve of him being a small maniac in YOLT.
