I just got done listening to "Twelve Thirty", by The Mamas and Papas, and every time I do listen to I think of Sharon Tate and it makes me sad and it chills me to the bone. I have always liked Roman Polanski, never thought he was a bad person, not by a long shot, and I have brought the topic up before, though never perhaps in such a direct way. I have read posts here that have judged and demonized RP and I have never been able to wrap my head around such rabid judgment and unforgiving attitude. And while RP seems to trigger a lot of people, much of the time I think they were unmoved by the tragedy of Sharon Tate. There is something to that. Hence, the poll...
Anyway, I voted for Susan Denise Atkins because she was the one who actually killed Sharon, and she has always scared the hell out of me.

why “was”? he is still alive.
and not really qualify as an outright bad a person in my book from what i know
cannot even comprehend why someone would want to in any way ask this question, to compare Manson and Polanski.

Wasn't it the "Tex Watson" guy no one ever talks about who killed her? I think the idea of Manson's women being a cult of killers was probably exaggerated so his role could be emphasized into a conspiracy for the politics of it. Polanski got privilege-that's why he escaped it. Underage sexual abuse goes hand in hand with Hollywood. It was in the deleted scene in the Godfather after all.
Jack Woltz: You don't understand. Johnny Fontane never gets that movie. That part is perfect for him. It'll make him a big star. I'm gonna run him out of the movies. And let me tell you why. Johnny Fontane ruined one of Woltz International's most valuable proteges. For three years we had her under contract, singing lessons, dancing lessons, acting lessons. I spent hundreds of thousands of dollars. I was gonna make her a big star. And let me be even more frank, just to show you that I'm not a hard-hearted man, that it's not all dollars and cents. She was beautiful! She was young, she was innocent. She was the greatest piece of ass I've ever had, and I've had 'em all over the world. And then Johnny Fontaine comes along with his olive oil voice and guinea charm and she runs off. She threw it all away just to make me look ridiculous. And a man in my position can't afford to be made to look ridiculous. Now you get the hell out of here! And if that goomba tries any rough stuff, you tell him I ain't no bandleader. Yeah, I heard that story.

Anyway, I voted for Susan Denise Atkins because she was the one who actually killed Sharon, and she has always scared the hell out of me. I get your point Mr. Dirty, even though it can appear a bit of a an odd comparison due to the nature of Manson and his minions crimes and what Polanski gets defiled for. Most people just won't want to make the connection Polanski had to the Manson\Tate murders, because I think it is just way too confronting. They will find another opening because it is easier to contemplate\deal with Polanski's own behavior in the late 70's and play lynch mob, even if many of them appear misinformed and have their own displaced aggression issues.
I do not think Polanski was a bad\rotten person either and what he had experienced in his life leading up to his arrest for having sex with an experienced and scheming minor, gets made out to be the worst thing someone could do. In due respect, it ultimately pales in comparison as to what his own psyche would have endured leading up to that incident. Polanski's life was full of nuance and complexity and it doesn't make any sense, or is even absurd and "irrational" to place objectivity, or simpleminded black and white notions onto what he is most remembered for. Not to mention the US justice system also had its own demons regarding how Polanski was dealt with.
Michael Jackson has been 10yrs dead and there are people that still want to hurt and kill him. That says so much more about them and their own personal anger issues and projections. If Polanski was tortured and killed instead of fleeing the US, they would still be hating on him. How hilariously put! "an experienced and scheming minor", indeed! You have such a suspicious nature, Toasted Cheese! On the other hand, I suppose I can let myself be way too gullible at times! Ida and Vincent and Terry and the sheriff brother might have had me over for Fish 'n Chips!

Is going around drugging and raping 13 year olds while they say no a common side effect of your wife getting murdered? No one is going to pick Polanski over a psychopathic killer, but that doesn't excuse Polanski, either.
Idiotic and disgusting thread.

Well, they're all bad, but Manson was responsible for actual deaths, and he would've kept going too, soooo...

Yes, I think you are right, Toasted Cheese, I can see how my comparison could seem odd and out of nowhere. I just feel protective towards Roman Polanski - always have - and don't understand or appreciate the feelings and opinions of some people. But you already knew all that, didn't ya?

Charles Manson by a long, long way.
At least Roman Polanski wouldn't brainwash a bunch of people into brutally murdering an entire group of people for the sake of his delusional ideals.

Posters here (some of y'all at least) are so odd. Grown ass adult women that go to a hotel room at 3 am for an "audition" and then suck a dick and then years later cry about it are somehow victims. A CHILD of 12 who is given drugs and booze and then raped by Polanski is not only NOT a victim in the eyes of the more idiotic posters but more to blame somehow than creepy child rapist Roman. White folks (some of them) are terrifying in their lack of compassion and bat shit crazy ideas of morality.

I love Polanski's movies but he is a huge pile of shit as a person. Apparently many of y'all don't understand this FACT but it's WRONG to have sex with children. It's WRONG to have sex with a person of any age that is drunk out of their minds. Who needs to be told these things? Sociopaths. And for some of you to actually think Polanski is a victim here. Loathsome and proves my suspicion that some here want to rape children and be given a free pass.
Manson despite never actually murdering anyone is worse than pedo Polanski tho. Who has ever said they were not moved by the tragedy of what happened to Sharon Tate? Provide a link to someone on this site saying that. It's horrifying and heart breaking. Still doesn't give her husband a free pass to rape kids tho.

You should have posted this topic & poll on the True Crime message forum. The sub forums don't get much action I find. General discussion can cover it all. The LGBT sub forum is too hidden as well, so these issues are best expressed on politics or general.
If you post there it'd help that board with traction

If you post there it'd help that board with traction Only if being followed by another poster perhaps. Politics, RFS, general discussion, film general and soapbox are the best exposure. Well I'll totally follow as well.
