Has anyone seen this? It's almost an hour longer.
If so, what did you think? If not, what did you think of "Apocalypse Now"?

Theatrical cut - 9/10 Redux - 5/10 I like the French plantation sequence. The rest of the additional scenes are not only pointless but detract from the film. Does anyone really want to see Willard goofing off with the crew and stealing Kilgore's surfboard? It's out of character. Willard is an outsider to the crew. The Playboy bunnies scene in the monsoon goes on and on as the movie grinds to a halt. I can't be bothered going on with this useless version.....

I don't like Willard stealing the surfboard since it feels out of character to me. I agree in that he's supposed to be an outsider to the boat crew.
The scene with trading fuel to spend time with the Playboy bunnies feels pointless.
The French plantation scene is OK if overlong and not exactly necessary. At least Clean has nice funeral.
I'm fine with the extra Brando scene with him reading the magazine although I'm also fine with it not being in the theatrical cut. Nice to see if not necessary and/or essential.
Don't forget about Coppola premiering the Final Cut at Tribeca Film Festival this month. Coppola has now said he thinks Redux is too long so it will be interesting to see what scenes he'll cut out for the Final Cut.

Didn't care much for the Redux. As already noted, most additional scenes add little if anything, save for length. Watching the two versions offers insight about film editing. Brace yourselves for an even longer version that's coming!

I too like the French Plantation scene. It's insightful for the viewer (in my opinion) to realize that the war was going on for much longer than just the "official" American involvement. The French had been carrying on for years prior to and after WW2 and there were many established French families and plantation owners that had been there for generations. It showed a little bit of "civilization" in the madness of the conflict as well. It also seems to me to be another small link to the source material, Heart of Darkness (colonial exploitation of resources, etc.)
The rest of the redux though i'm pretty much ambivalent about. I agree that the Playboy Bunny sequence was way too long. I do like both versions, they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I never seen Redux as a whole but looking at the extra scenes it looks rather pointless. Apocalypse Now was fine as it was. Much like the Star Wars trilogy was.

www.tribecafilm.com/filmguide/apocalypse-now-2019According to the Tribeca site, the "Final Cut" of Apocalypse Now premiering on April 28th at Tribeca is about 3 hours long (assuming I'm reading this all correctly). Redux was about 3 hours and 22 minutes and the theatrical cut is 2 hours and 30 minutes. So if this is all true, then that means Coppola just cut out about 22 from Redux and/or the theatrical cut. So I have to wonder what footage was cut out (assuming no new footage was put in place). That's cool that Steven Soderbergh will be interviewing Coppola after the screening. Francis Ford Coppola - "I often felt that the original 1979 was too abruptly shortened, and Redux was too long, and settled on what I now felt was the perfect version, which is what we’re showing at Tribeca later this month, called Apocalypse Now Final Cut.”"
