I heard one of the reasons the show was cancelled was due to the political incorrectness at the time of violence on TV. That's a new one on me. You're maybe too young to remember the anti-TV violence people.

You're maybe too young to remember the anti-TV violence people. I'm 52. I remember a murderer trying to get off by saying that an episode of Kojak inspired him to do it, but that was a few years after The Wild Wild West went off the air. I also remember a TV movie with Martin Balsam that may have been based on the Kojak incident.

My favorite shows were mostly on before or shortly after I was born. I remember seeing a few episodes of Star Trek and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea on prime time in the 60's. I only saw The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, The Wild Wild West, and The Prisoner in syndication.

Any non-moron knew it wasn't real. But certain malcontented social elements (commies) who wished to change America insisted on causing trouble and enough fools allowed themselves to be sufficiently intimidated to believe that such TV shows were bad for everybody and so TV producers actually tried to keep violence out of TV. All the effort amounted to, besides allowing commies to get their rocks off, was to get certain TV shows cancelled. Political correctness in America goes way back.

I heard one of the reasons the show was cancelled was due to the political incorrectness at the time of violence on TV. "Excessive violence" was the reason the show was cancelled. As Sue Kesler's book explains: "In the front offices at CBS the possibility of cancellation came with an influx of governmental and administrative concerns about the level of violence portrayed on television. Earlier in the season a crack-down on excessive violence came as a result of the April assassination of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., and the assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, which followed just two months later. Washington created The National Commission on Causes and Prevention of Violence which linked video/television violence to real-life violence. The Commission felt that, in the absence of family, peer and school relationships, television became a most compatible substitute for real-life experiences. The Commission also recommended a self-policing policy in networks, with Commission-supplied guidelines. A notable reduction in programs that contained violence was encouraged, along with the total elimination of violence from children's programming, and the scheduling of crime and adventure series in the evening hours, long after children's bedtime."

I believe one of the CBS Executives wife liked "Gunsmoke," so it stayed on the air. I liked "Gunsmoke," but not as much as "West."

I recently purchased the The Wild Wild Revisited / More Wild Wild West Double Feature DVD. I finished watching the first film, The Wild Wild Revisited, tonight. I had never seen this made for TV movie before, and I've got to admit that it actually recaptured the spirit of the series. It even had three of The Four Elements of The Wild Wild West - the only one missing was gas. There were fistfights, an Artemus disguise (as a dancing girl!), and several beautiful women. I really did enjoy the film. I did see More Wild Wild West once, many years ago, and it did not make a favorable impression on me at the time. I'll be interested to see if a second view changes my opinion.

I haven't seen "Revisited" in years. Not as good as one of the series episodes I seemed to recall, but much better than "More." I have been trying to watch "More Wild Wild West" and it has been a struggle. So far I've watched the first three chapters (45 minutes) and it's hard to keep interested. I watched "Revisited" in just two sittings and it was much more enjoyable. Yes, the Six Hundred Dollar People were a joke based on the "Six Million Dollar Man". But they didn't go overboard with it, and worked it into the story effectively. "More", on the other hand, has two bodybuilders dressed up like Lou Ferrigno in "The Incredible Hulk" - for no reason other than trying to make a joke. IMO that attempt at humor fell flat. I will post a more complete review of "More" once I watch it all.

I finally completed "More Wild Wild West" and results were mixed. Conrad and Martin were in fine form, but the movie was weak with too much emphasis on comedy. The Hulks who were actually referred to, and credited as, "Hulks" were pretty ridiculous. At one point you can see one Hulk has normal skin tone on his legs, as if the make-up department couldn't be bothered to do a complete make-up job. The twin girls, Yvonne and Daphne were beautiful, and I liked the scene where Jim "interrogates" one of them. There was also a welcome return to some classic West gadgets, namely Jim's "Rosa Klebb" style knife in the tip of his shoe. In "The Wild Wild West Revisited" Jim only used his hidden lock pick, which hardly qualifies as a gadget. According to Sue Kessler's book, the original plan for "More" was to bring back Paul Williams as one of the five clones of Miguelito Loveless, Jr. alluded to "Revisited". That would explain why Albert Paradine II has the same atomic bomb technology (and stock footage ) that Junior had in "Revisited". When we see AP 2's bomb, it even has the same color scheme as the bombs in "Revisited". And in all, I have to say I'm glad I bought the DVD double feature which cost about $14. "Revisited" is actually pretty good and "More" has its moments.
