The acting is pretty atrocious...but its always been entertaining for me. I was thinking tho when it came out a lot of my friends would choose a side in this fight before we saw it...like who you rooting for Freddy or Jason? I was always more of a Freddy guy myself.

jason but happy it ended in a 'draw' (yep freddy winking right before the credits rolling - to me - we never really knew what happened next ..... so a 'draw')

The lead actress is particularly bad in her acting chops...but hey, she’s got her assets.
Also, if I were much older back when it came out, I would’ve hoped Jason would win but I do like Freddy more as a villain.

I wanted Jason to win, but I'm glad Freddy was still "alive" at the end or whatever.

I always rooted for Jason.
Also, I feel like if I wasn't so wrapped up in the pre-release hype (IMDB message board for that movie was pretty nutty circa 2002/2003) and saw it in theaters, I wouldn't like it nearly as much as I do.

I actually hated it when I first saw it in '03. I have grown to like it more. When Freddy and/or Jason is on screen its good but the teens are a pain to watch.

This was the first of any of those old slasher franchise movies that I saw in a theater, so I will always have to go a little easy on it.
But I also think it's a pretty good bit of fun. Freddy drives the style and the plot, Jason gets all the kills. And those kills are amped up to an absurd level since we are already dealing in a heightened level of near surrealism even when not in a dream sequence.
I also don't know that I agree that the acting is all that bad. At least not any worse than these franchises were already used to. Maybe I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt a bit too much, but I always thought the tone was deliberate and the performances were pitched exactly at what they'd aimed for. They wanted there to be a level of cheesiness throughout to evoke the sort of camp value that both franchises had reached without going full Freddy's Dead.
There's a line early in the movie where the lead girl is talking about her old boyfriend and says something like 'Yeah we were young but what we had was real.' It's a terrible line and delivered in such a soap operatic way that I have to believe that was all very intentional.
Plus, I think the two mental patient fugitives are genuinely pretty decent actors... John Ritter's son and the other dude.
I don't recall ever looking at the IMDb boards before it came out (that would likely have been before I ever joined), but I do remember seeing later that there were debates about who had won, and clearly that means the producers had won. It was so clearly non committal and whoever you wanted to see win is who you come away believing had won. As silly as it is, it clearly did it's job in that sense.
I remember reading some discarded and nearly produced scripts around that time too. As much as some fans might have been a little disappointed with the movie that was made, there some really crazy and awful ideas that came pretty damn close to being the film with this namesake, so I think we got kinda lucky with the way it turned out.
I still think a follow up with Tommy Jarvis and Alice from the Nightmare series 5 could still make sense now.

Anybody remember the epic Freddy vs. Jason vs. Spock post? It had to have broken the record for most responses before it eventually got 'locked'/'removed' - or did they eventually start to just discard older posts?

I just think it eventually got pushed off the page, once they decided to shorten the amount of viewable threads on movies with less traffic. Same thing with the "Harold, do you want mayonnaise on your sandwich?" thread on the Halloween II board.

It was an ok film and I was rooting for Jason.
I thought they did a decent job on the concept of why/how these two icons would meet up.

this is pretty much jason in an epic landslide
freddy in my eyes became more unlikeable the more comedic he got - although i regard #3 as the best of the series behind #1 and the rest are junk.
f13th IMO - i go:
FvJ III IV 5 1 2 ......rest are junk

It was ok. They were too cheap to use Kane Hodder or the mother form Friday the 13th.
The only victim I noticed was the girl in the baseball cap who went on to appear in some other horror films.

He didnt talk-he just stood there with a machete staring at the other presenter. Before him I think Jason was a little boring. I mean, I dont want another Michael Myers type stiff. Then again, I dont think the anonymous stunt man who did it was bad, but Hodder has come to be known as the official Jason so why not...

Me and my family were all Team Freddy. It felt like most people were at the time, but the writers kind of skewed Jason into being the "good guy" and more badass.

FvsJ is my fav Jason film, not sure how I would rank the rest, the Hodder run goes a bit crazy with the odd crap they pull like Zombie Jason, psychics, Jason being bale to teleport which I still find hilarious that and him punching a dudes head off, Jason being demon spawn then Jason in space, none are masterpieces but they are great mindless fun, the first 4 though are kind of just the same, 5 with the reveal in the end is unique atleast, just what is the timeline in the F13th films, like years pass in universe between some of those films whilst like just a year goes by in the real world for the most part, they must have gotten to the mid 2000's by Part 7 yet everything remains mid 80's which is funny looking back on it all.
Great now im hankering for some mindless slasher fun, guess I know what i'll be watching tonight.

Plus, he was in the worst installments. I can see why the studio wanted to move past him. I highly doubtful it had to do with pay, as I bet Kane would've still done it for cheap.

I was thinking tho when it came out a lot of my friends would choose a side in this fight before we saw it...like who you rooting for Freddy or Jason? I was always more of a Freddy guy myself. Both were psychotic, homicidal manics, but Freddy was never going to come out on top as much as Jason, he was too pathetic and some of his victims were also little kids. Jason went after sex-crazed teens and adults who just go in his way. Well he did really, Jason didn't beat Freddy, the chick took his head off, and both still were alive at the end of things, plus neither truly dies, Freddy goes back to the dreamworld and Jason simply rots a little more.
But yeah Freddy had to "lose" Freddy wanted to find ways to kill more people, Jason more or less just sticks to hunting whoever comes to the lake, Freddy manipulated Jason into the rampage in FvsJ, so Freddy needs to be defeated to stop him spreading too far, Jason if you don't somehow drag him along with you stays put meaning stay away from Crystal Lake and your all good, he's also the lesser of the two evils.
