Decided to watch it in its entirety...I was a fan of what i saw...just some fun action/sci fi/horror...I know it's not a great adaptation of the games but that doesn't bother me. I only really played RE2 anyhow.
Resident Evil...Prob the simplest scope, and easiest to make right...team of people trying to exit a zombie ridden facility. Into to Alice. I always enjoyed Milla Jovovich and she does a fine job in this role imo. The security hallway with the lazer beams was a memorable moment. The supporting cast was ok. The cgi doesn't hold up well at all tho. The lickers looked really terrible.

A series I defend. They’re just dumb entertainment to me.
What did you think of the sequels?

Resident Evil: Apocalypse...I remember being mildly disappointed the story didn't follow Leon and Claire, like RE2 the video game did...since that was the only game i was very familiar with...but overall this entry is solid. Expanding the danger to an entire city as opposed to just the Umbrella facility...including a classic vg monster in Nemesis, who i really enjoyed. Giving Alice powers to make her something of a superbadass! Solid supporting cast in Jill, Carlos and LJ. Got me thinking what ever happened to mike epps? The kids in the school eating the news reporter and the church sequence were two of my more memorable moments.

I watched all of the movies, I had binged them finally, early last year. I haven't needed to see them since. "dumb entertainment" is the perfect way to describe these movies.
I was a huge fan of the games, nearly mastering the first best three, the other many sequels are really up for interpretation. I disliked the first movie so much originally, because very little of it is based on the game. I mean it is, and it isn't. Of course over time I learned to accept it for what it is. Alice (Milla Jovovich), is the franchise. And she's perfect for it. I'd say she's the one thing the games don't have, telling the story through her. I can't fully breakdown the movies, basically only seeing them all once. They each had good things and bad things to them, so I'll give some opinion without major spoils.
"Resident Evil" I think the first movie is a fresh start into the rest of the movies. But the characters are a bit scattered to me, like not memorable (minus Alice). Still it sets everything into motion and it's mansion take was unique. (6/10)
"Resident Evil: Apocalypse" I thought was a lot of fun because it had a fast pace, a lot of action, less character development and just in your face runnin' and gunnin', and we got the tyrant which is cool. It resembles the game maybe the most. (8/10)
"Resident Evil: Extinction" for me felt like a bit of a waste. I mean I don't particularly like movies that take place in the desert, but it does play into the plot as to why it does. I remember crows being a swarming enemy, ha. (4/10)
"Resident Evil: Afterlife" I probably remember the least. It kind of flew by story-wise, feeling like another plot, another dead-end situation to get out of etc. We got Ali Larter who's my second favorite cast choice. (5/10)
"Resident Evil: Retribution", by this time I was bored with the franchise, however, this movie was the second most entertaining movie for me. It really digs into the Umbrella corporation which I love. I heard the bad ideas of this movie and returning former cast members, not knowing how'd that work. But it worked to me. This movie to me is what I think of when I think of Resident Evil being turned into a movie looks like. Bright, zombies, story, combined with action. I personally liked and could've accepted the franchise ending with this movie. (7/10)
"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter", feels a little forced to me. Like it's even more post-apocalyptic looking, deserted etc. Alice showing some more age, still trying to find the final answers to what she learned in her journey. The movie offers the same action, which is okay, but I personally expected more. Something insane and memorable, when the movie really just feels like another final story. If I remember right, it even ends feeling like their could be more. I myself, like a franchise ending on a high, complete, sadly they rarely do. (5/10)
One thing the movies don't focus on is the Umbrella viruses. It's like you get what's going on, and what you don't get you're just left to try and accept. Like there is a T Virus, G Virus, and C Virus, which explains the zombies, different mutations and outbreak to everything. The games excel on explaining this, while the movies kind of don't. So overall, the movies are okay. They're fun, but not perfect. I think they relied too much on Hollywood action and not on in-depth storytelling, with unique horror. Which is exactly what the Silent Hill movies did. Also epic games, but the movies are all over the place. However, I do think the first half of the first "Silent Hill" movie, is the best video game adaptation, even over the Resident Evil movies combined. Keep in mind, most won't agree with me about any of this ha. Fans of these movies can be very opinionated, this is just my opinion. Hope it helps.

Resident Evil Extinction...So i didn't enjoy it as much as the previous entries and i can't pinpoint why. I didn't hate it...it just didn't reel me in like the others. One thing i did like was the Dr. Isaacs character. I had either forgotten or not realized it was played by the guy who plays Jorah on GOT. I enjoyed that. I think maybe there were just too many extra supporting characters in this one for me to wrap my head around. Maybe i was thinking some would be more important or memorable then they really were and when they all of the sudden died randomly i felt like..."But i just met them!". LJ being an idiot also bothered me. He should know by now not to hide being bitten. Intro to Claire is nice tho, but most of the characters kind of get overshadowed by Alice...who's still pretty badass here. All in all enjoyable but not as memorable as the previous entries.

Still hadn't seen either Resident Evil or the Underworld movies. I enjoyed whatever Underworlds ive seen. Similar appeal id say, between the franchises. Theyre action/horror/scifi hybrids that feels influenced by the action from the matrix films. Lots of slo mo, bullet time, kung fu-esque moves and whatnot.

I watched the first one it was pretty bad. The "Silent Hill" movie was a little better, sadly the closest there probably is to a good video game movie.

The first and Extinction are the only movies in the franchise that I even remotely like.
Resident Evil: Retribution I hate with a passion.

I've only seen the first two and don't like either, save that admittedly awesome laser hallway.
I think Romero's script for the first one is floating around online. Need to read it.

A fellow guy who only played the game, "Resident Evil 2," which was quite enjoyable and had a hell of an atmosphere. That led me to checking out the movie.
I echo what many others have said, as it is sort of dumb entertainment, but I don't say that disparagingly. The sequels become increasingly ridiculous, but the movies definitely "know what they are." They all come in around 90-100 minutes and don't overstay their welcome. Even the more ridiculous ones have breakneck pacing and just blow past plot holes for the sake of fun.
In the current world where many movies take themselves way too seriously, I liked the series as a whole for its self-awareness. If you like schlock (I do, and I don't use that as a negative term), they are fun. They seem like modern B-movies to me, which I wish there were more of. I do wish they would have been a little less PG-13 in some instances, as the subject matter is violent and brutal at its core, but that's a very small complaint. Some of the CGI is pretty ugly as well, at times. Another minor complaint.
Milla Jovovich does consistently well over the series as well, despite how ridiculous her character becomes.
If you like schlock, these are pretty entertaining and harmless movies, though they don't seem to have the same vibe as the game (at least the only one I played, RE2).

Resident Evil: Afterlife...i enjoyed it. More than Extinction but prob not more than the first 2. I was kind of glad the clones of Alice did their thing quickly and weren't encompassing the entire film. I liked what they did...but i was also glad it was short. I thought the supporting cast here was more solid than it has been. Obiously Alice and Claire return but i was happy with what we got out of the group of survivors in the prison. They all had enough of a personality to be noticeable and there weren't so many that they get lost in the shuffle. Also, Kacey Clarke is gorgeous. Theres a lot of good looking women in the RE films so far but she took the cake for me. Makes me wish she lasted longer. The new tentacle zombies...im not a huge fan...i get that they wanted to show something different and they certainly seem more intimidating and threatening...but the insectoid mouths started to feel overused by the end of the film. Overall more fun, more action...solid installment. Favorite moment...Axeman shower fight sequence.
