Errrrrrrrrrrr what?
Why do people make arguments like this?
If they're unexplained, then there is no current explanation. So that makes god just a synonym for no explanation? God means you don't know. Wow. Let's worship that.

I don't personally know any religious people who think this way.

Have you ever considered speaking to someone about your obsession?

Have you ever considered speaking to someone about your obsession? If the Bible had been written by Marvel Comics it would all have been fact in his tiny mind.

Why do people make arguments like this? What people? Arch probably has in mind the God of the Gaps argument, in which his example would be best expressed as 'I Believe In God Because So Many Things Are Unexplained by science'.

Arch probably has in mind the God of the Gaps argument, in which his example would be best expressed as 'I Believe In God Because So Many Things Are Unexplained by science'. This makes sense. I have indeed never heard a theist make the argument as formulated by the OP. Theists have an explanation for "unexplained" stuff: God. It may not be a scientific explanation, but it's still an explanation. But then, I believe that the OP has claimed in the past that there is such a thing as absolute truth. In my opinion, belief in absolute truth is to be taken as seriously as belief in deities.

I have never heard a Christian argue about God of Gaps which makes Arar's argument more retarded. If someone who loves science pretends that science has the answer for everything, they are lying and thus are guilty of the same trope they invented to whine against religious people. God of gaps=science of gaps. As usual, the actual argument is non-existent and even nonsensical. Now if arar would want to argue about people who believe in God solely because they aren't atheist or agnostic, that would be a far more interesting topic...& even that isn't that interesting.

What else is Creationism, or Intelligent Design, but this sort of argument?

I don't personally know any religious people who think this way. “I’ll tell you why [religion is] not a scam, in my opinion. Tide goes in, tide goes out. Never a miscommunication. You can’t explain that. You can’t explain why the tide goes in.”

You can’t explain that. You can’t explain why the tide goes in.” Think that's more a case of pretending something that's been explained is unexplained.

I doubt he was pretending - he genuinely didn't know that it has been explained.
When challenged, he came up with "Well where did the moon come from? Where did the sun come from?" - apparently unaware that we know those things, too.
Still, whilst he is wrong about the details of what is and isn't explained, he's still using the exact "god of the gaps" argument the OP referenced.
Oh, and for another example look at Arlon on these very boards. For some reason he seems to believe that because we don't know exactly how life began, that shows that god must exist.

I don't personally know any religious people who think this way. I hear arguments like this all the time. "I've seen too many things that I can't explain"

The only thing insane would be to argue that we shouldn't question ideas.

The only thing insane would be to argue that we shouldn't question ideas.Luckily, nobody is arguing that we shouldn't do that.
