Business Insider did a pretty comprehensive survey of Game of Thrones fans that was recently released and the headline says: "We had 'Game of Thrones' fans vote for the best and worst characters in the series' history, and House Lannister reigns supreme." Tyrion and Bronn anchor their status as most likeable characters overall and the performances of Charles Dance, Lena Headey and Jack Gleeson cement their position as the best portrayed with Peter Dinklage and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau close behind.

Heh, fang-envy is an embarrassing condition to admit to.
What did you think of the survey? I thought the methodology a pretty clever way to mitigate ballot-stuffing and thought respondents did a good job separating likeability from an actor's performance. One exception amongst the Lannisters was Eugene Simon as Lancel. It is easy to see why fans didn't find him likable as a fop or fanatic, but the very fact so many on the old IMDB board initially thought the role had been re-cast when he re-appeared in season six is a testament to his acting skills.

The Lannisters are BY FAR the best characters so this is no surprise. Tywin, Cersei, Tyrion, and Jaime are all amazing and well acted characters with more depth than most other characters on the show. Add in their team of Bronn, Zombie Mountain, and Qyburn and you have the most interesting crew.

It is very interesting that the oath breaking king slaying Lannister is the most honorable.

Who did Tommen took after? Not sure. Tywin's father, maybe. Tywin S2E06: "He loved us. He was a good man, but a weak man, a weak man who nearly destroyed our House and name." Tommen was not developed much but avoidance of conflict is what best characterised him.

Just the way he said that the custom was barbaric made me feel they had stepped out of line and were inflicting today's values in that barbaric world. They probably could have used better words at least.

You would find similar opinions all along recorded history.
