Been 25 years since this movie came out (technically it was filmed in 1990 but delayed for 4 years). Any fans of it?
I unapologetically love this film and have done so since I first saw it as a youngster 25 years ago. Yes, it's silly and ridiculous. Yes, Martin Short (40 at the time) playing a 10 year old is absurd. But I think those qualities are why I love the film so much.
Roger Ebert says it all: "The movie is so odd, it's almost worth seeing just because we'll never see anything like it again. I hope."
And that's why I love it.

I remember this but haven’t seen it since roughly 1995. Whatever happened to Charles Grodin?

"Charles was already very established in Hollywood before he signed up to portray the Newton family patriarch — who at first hates the idea of having a dog, but eventually falls in love with the lovable drool-ster because oooooobvi. Along with starring in hit films like 1968's Rosemary's Baby and 1976's King Kong, Charles also starred in the 1993 Beethoven sequel, Beethoven's 2nd. The father-of-two, who briefly retired from the scene in the mid '90s, resurfaced in 2006 when he starred in The Ex. He was most recently seen in 2014's While We're Young alongside Ben Stiller and Naomi watts."

I love Martin Short, and he does not disappoint in that film. It's pretty funny, and the casting is on point.

I quote the, "Can you just act like a human boy for one minute here," scene to my four year old son all the time.

This movie was a sweet blend of wild, adorable, over-the-top humor. I saw it when it was brand new as a 11-year-old kid, VHS days, and I loved it. I could relate to all of the adults, especially Martin Short.
Actor Martin Short, in his genius, played that role like no other actor could at the time. Actor Dana Carvey is the only other actor of that time I think could've attempted to pull it all. There's not a single movie by Short that I dislike till this day. Comedy actors today can't even duplicate his sense of urgency, intensity and charisma. "Innerspace" is a perfect example of this. Actor Charles Grodin was a perfect counter-part for this, almost like the perfect storm to anything Clifford could do in the movie. I was never the biggest fan of his, but you got to appreciate some of the roles he took on. Movies like "Midnight Run" etc. At the time of first watching this I didn't know, but I can't believe Grodin was 59-year-old during the release of this movie. He looked 40-ish in the movie. Actress Mary Steenburgen also was a lovely face in the movie. I almost thought she was a innocent flirt in all of her movies, but in this movie she plays a dashing under-the-radar America's Sweetheart. "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" is a good example of one of her more flirtier performances, lol. And Actor Dabney Coleman, he's a little before my memory, but I know he's a master in his own comedic right. His comedy movie "Short Time" is still one of my favorite movies for nostalgic reasons.
"Clifford" just has an all-around family fun feel to it. There was a time I had the "Scary Rex" song memorized in my head, now maybe just fragments of it, ha. The movie's comedy can be a bit Rated-R at times, but I do think this movie has a lot of heart if you dig under the surface. It's like no one wants to fully kill somebody, but have the anger to at times. Isn't that what family is, an emotional roller coaster? The ending of this movie was hilarious and for a kid watching, quite scary. I can watch the ending of this movie over-and-over and never get tired of it. That roller coaster ride was awful, and awfully good. No Universal ride I've been on has ever come close to that looking ride at Dinosaur World. Summed up at the end with old man Clifford talking to Stephen, "Mission accomplished, old friend."
