I have a sort of like-dislike relationship with Lord Tywin. The plus point with him is that he was a pragmatic man and tried to see things from long term perspective. He was intelligent and had refined manners when he talked. But the negative is that at the end of the day he was a violent man and loved to let his mad dog chase his enemies and not just chase them but brutalize them.

Charles Dance brought such a strength to Tywin Lannister that I liked him immediately. Compared to in the books where I was never really fond. The aura of power around him was magnificent from his scenes in season 1 talking to Jaime while gutting a deer to his conversations with Arya in season 2. Despite going against so many other fan favorites I enjoyed seeing him thrive in a position of power that he worked for.
