Brilliant work by Hamilton & Mercedes! Red Bull caught napping and Mercedes took advantage. But great work Lewis for trusting himself and hunting down Max. Man, did you watch the race? The end result doesn't justify how close it was. After the chase began after a sneaky pit stop I thought that Hamilton might challenge him in the last lap. But Hamilton got slowed down by traffic ahead for the next few laps and I thought it is over. But then he started putting fast laps after fast laps. This victory shouldn't go down to Merc being the better car. As evidenced from the 1:17.103 fastest lap record set by RB the difference today was down to good strategy by Merc and good driving by Hamilton.

If Verstappen pitted the lap after, he would have lost his first place right away. This pitstop was a gamble only Mercedes could take. Not the result I wanted, but it was a great race. Ferrari was so much of pace. I was so focused on the Ver/Ham gap, I didnt see Vettel gaining fast on Leclerc. Gasly is still a problem. Again he was lapped by Max. Well done Sainz. And well done Russel and Williams.

It was clear from the start that Mercedes was the better car though. Hamilton was managing the gap at the start. And the fastest lap was because of fresh soft tyres on an near empty tank. Still it was a good strategy by Merc and good driving by Ham.

So they decided to go till the very last which was not the their mistake. But even Hamilton's first pitstop came 6 laps after Max's so that is where RB didn't do calculations. Had they pitted before Lewis pitted then Max would have come out ahead in case Hamilton took the 2nd pit stop after Max. Now the question arises would Hamilton have also pitted if Max pitted? I think so because Hamilton had slowed down after first 10 laps of first pit stop.

Its always easier as the attacking party to do that. There was nothing to lose for Merc. It helped that Ferrari was nowhere. It was really a two man race. I mean, both made 1 extra stop and still finishes so far ahead of Vettel. Also, Max said in his dutch interview, that if Hamilton wasnt all that much quicker on the medium tyre, they would have also pitted, but Hamiltons outlap was very good, so they decided to stay out and wait and see.

I think they should have changed the tactics. Especially given Merc took dummy pitstop a lap or two before Max's first pit stop. Ferrari will be hoping for a change in fortunes after the 3 weeks break. They have been pretty disappoint as has been Gasly who is really performing far below a RB driver would be expected to perform.

Gasly is being replaced by Albon for the rest of the season. I think that is a justified move. It's not that Gasly has been unlucky in many races. He simply has not delivered the performance that would be expected from a driver with one of the top 3 cars. He is almost always much slower than his team mate in qualifying. He hasn't done anything special.

This news was not unexpected at all. Gasly has been so underwhelming, and getting lapped by your teammate multiple times is just bad. And he always seems to get stuck behind a Alfa or a Mclaren.

Interesting to note the current odds for Belgian Grand Prix. Hamilton 2.37 Vettel 3.75 Leclerc 4 Bottas 8 Max 9 Albon 81 So in spite of the great form shown by Max odds of him winning are lower than Ferrari drivers and out of form and in pressure Bottas. Is it because Ferrari are making major changes or the Belgian track gives advantage to cars with better straight-line speed?

Same goes for Monza, even more so than Spa.

Not F1 but F2, but there was a big crash. I got goosebumps ight away. They stopped the race and will not resume. They never showed a replay of the crash. 7 ambulances are at the site. Im afraid Hubert is not ok. Now Im reading that people in the stands near the crash have to leave.

5 Years ago Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes died after being hit by a fast delivery by his fellow Australian cricketer Sean Abbott. That incidence is still fresh in the hearts of not just Australian but also the people from all around the world. I still think of Hughes almost 4 or 5 times every year. We still feel the pain of losing a nice young man. Don't follow F2 but can understand what it feels like when people die in sporting action.
