The whole “finale” angle worked out for Return of the Jedi and Revenge of the Sith, which both managed to make more money than the preceding second chapter of their respective trilogies. Do you think The Rise of Skywalker will continue that trend?

I voted "No" as Disney Star Wars is experiencing the law of diminishing returns. They've released two Episodes and two Star Wars Stories, and in each case, the follow-up made considerably less than its predecessor. The Force Awakens The Last Jedi Rogue One Solo Worldwide Gross $2,068,223,624 $1,332,539,889 $1,056,057,273 $392,924,807 www.boxofficemojo.com/showdowns/chart/?id=starwarsdisney.htmTLJ was down 36% from TFA, while Solo was down 63% from Rogue One. I wouldn't be surprised if Episode IX is down 36% from TLJ, meaning a worldwide gross of $853 million. I have no doubt Episode IX will make a profit, but the best days at the box office for Disney Star Wars are behind it.

Do you think The Rise of Skywalker will continue that trend? I think TROS will get a finale boost, and I think it'll also get a boost from fans: - mourning the recent losses of Carrie Fisher and Peter Mayhew - excited to finally see Lando in it - curious to see what happens to Luke - curious to see OT and PT references and storylines - curious to see what happens to the new cast at the end - etc. However, I don't think TROS will make more than TLJ. I saw TFA 12 times in theaters and TLJ twice. I'm skipping TROS and Rian's trilogy. We'll see how well TROS does in due time.

Yes, it will get a finale boost. 2 reasons why...
A) It always happens. ROTS got a boost after AOTC.
B) Don't a lot of people hope this movie will somewhat course correct after TLJ? I know I do!

A) It always happens. ROTS got a boost after AOTC. I don't know if that's the same. Revenge of the Sith had the much more interesting plot points. People wanted to see how Anakin would go over to the dark side, the fall of the Jedi, Anakin duking it out with Obi Wan and Anakin becoming Darth Vader. Return of the Jedi was supposed to be the last one. People wanted to know what was going to happen with Han Solo and what was going to happen now with Darth Vader being Luke's father. Whereas this one doesn't really have either of those things going for it and we already know it ain't gonna be the last one because they just announced another three.

In addition, although the prequel trilogy generated complaints, it never split the fandom like TLJ did. After "Revenge of the Sith", people were excited to see more "Star Wars". But after TLJ, a sizable portion of the fandom checked out completely. And some of those who remain are saying, " The only reason to see this: we need closure." That doesn't bode well for the kind of repeat business Episode IX would need to make more money than TLJ.

Hard to say. Some have definitely given up on Star Wars. If it’s not completely horrible like TLJ, people will watch it multiple times. It won’t have as big an opening weekend, that’s for sure.

A) This one has Abrams returning, and no matter what anyone says, don't we all kinda believe he's going to "course correct" as much as possible? I do.
B) The other three they announced are a separate story
