I enjoyed all 8 Harry Potter films. However, I noticed that I didn't really get to know most of the characters all that well. If each movie is basically 1 school year, wouldn't that work better as an entire season (10-20 episodes each) of a TV show on HBO, Amazon or Netflix? I think doing so would also give writers a chance to really flesh out all the characters.
Every episode doesn't need to be special effects-rich, but having a higher episode budget would be able to take care of the more expensive scenes.
Re-imagining Harry Potter as a TV show would also give creators the opportunity to give us a much more diverse cast, including LGBTQ characters.
What are your thoughts?

TV would work fine due to the stories being school year calendars. However, there'd be a lot of filler. Kids were binge reading the larger tomes in a day upon release.

Yes, you would need to write more material that's not in the movies or books, but it's also an opportunity to flesh out the main and supporting characters more. Like I said before, I didn't feel like I got to know most of them that well from watching all 8 movies.

A series would be interesting actually. If they're redoing Lord of the Rings, why not that one?

heres an idea, much like the movies why not have a new director come on with their own visual flair for a season and direct all episodes? like first season could be edgar wright, second joe wright, next, you get lynne ramsey(not likely) etc as well.

It would definitely have been better as a tv series, then they could have put in all the stuff that they left out of the films. I particularly regret Rick Myall as the poltergeist, left on the cutting room floor.

I particularly regret Rick Myall as the poltergeist, left on the cutting room floor. Yes, I too missed Peeves...and I would have liked to see a lot more of the Weasley family. Also, a series format would give the writers/producers to put in certain things that got skimmed over or missed out entirely, such as: the possibility of Neville Longbottom (who shared Harry's birthday) of being the "chosen" one; the scene of the Dursleys' evacuation, when Dudley went so far as to thank Harry for saving his life ; paying much closer attention to the situation of the house elves; and digging deeper into the muggles' side of the story. Not to mention the one big event in GoF that was almost completely glossed over in the film: the Quidditch World Cup! I understand that giving it the amount of time it really deserved would most likely have knocked the movie totally off kilter; but with a TV series, they would finally have the leisure to show it properly. Yes, it would be expensive, but it could be stretched out over several episodes, which might help allay the cost somewhat. But whether the Powers That Be decide to go with another movie series (a set of remakes) or a TV series, would it be asking too much if they took the trouble to cast the actors playing Harry and Lily with the same eye color? It really would be nice if, when all those old friends and acquaintances of Harry's parents keep telling him, "You have your mother's eyes", they could actually be telling the truth.
