Our 2 cherry trees are budding up hopefully to blossom soon. They are both dwarf trees, but the older and larger will provide us with lots of cherry for pies throughout the year. Needless to say they are sour cherries.

I'm visiting in a bit of a rural area, and today I saw some road-side fresh cherry stands. On my way home, tomorrow, I'm going to stop for some.

Needless to say they are sour cherries. nice! How long did it take for them to produce fruit? π The 1st tree produced the next year, the tiny new tree came with a few cherries on it. Looks like it will be loaded this year, but my husband the gardener will probably pick most off , because he will worry about the little branches breaking under the weight. They flower first then the leaves open too. We are Canadian so our fruit trees take longer to bloom and leaf out. Hubby says the cherries probably won't be ripe until July. And I almost had a stroke when he brought this tiny (he says it was about 5 foot tall) and said he paid $100.00 for it!

I think it will be at least 1 1/2 months before the Rainer cherries turn up at the stores, those are the only cherries I like, the various red cherries are too mushy and taste like spoiled fruit to me and the Queen Annes are too tart ( I do like the Queen Anne's that you can buy in the jars, I guess they add sugar to them).

The Rainier cherry season is over but when I went to Publix this morning, they had "Rainier cherries" from Canada. I bought a pound, they taste bland compared to the Rainiers from Washington State and California. I didn't know that Rainiers were being grown in Canada, maybe they will taste better in a few years. Hopefully Canada will start growing black raspberries and export them to the U.S. to be sold in the grocery store instead of the companies making jam and jellies.
