I just finished watching episode 4. This is a very hard series to watch but it is also so well done.

Ugh... I cringed so hard during those parts. Talk about a dilemma. *Spoilers* But if they are killing the Pets out of compassion due to the Radiation... Doesn't that mean they are being exposed to it as well? They aren't wearing protective Gear like the others. I don't think they were doing it out of compassion, but to avoid the spread of contamination.

I read they were going to film a scene where they were burying the dead Dogs and a Puppy was still alive in the pile. Due to running out of bullets there was nothing they could do for it.
They decided to scrap the scene because they felt it was too much.

Watching the end right now... Good job HBO and the great cast and production etc. I learned alot from this series I never knew.
What other events would you like to see covered in a miniseries? (Doesn't have to be another disaster)

Watched episode 5...I really enjoyed how at various points in the series it gave off different vibes...some of the earlier episodes feel like horror films but this last episode really pushes the courtroom drama approach and does it well. I thought they broke it all down perfectly. What they know happened and what they presume happened and all the pieces that fit. Very good series.

Having lost my 11 month old cat not that long ago, episode 4 just fucked me up.

Having lost my 11 month old cat not that long ago, episode 4 just fucked me up. Yea. What killed me was the deception. I get why they did it but seeing a dog come running because he happily thinks a person is there to maybe feed him or pet him or some other fantastic thing in a dogs world...only to get shot. It was really heartbreaking.

I love the framing as Legasov walks up to give testimony could relate.

Just finished watching episode 5. I think Legasov's testimony and the flashbacks give a good understanding of what happened.
I really hated Dyatlov by the end.

I just watched the first two episodes. Quite impressing. Now I want to know how the thing blew up.

Watched the 5 eps yesterday and it did indeed live up to all that buzz the last month. That 4th ep And Dyatlov was one of the most evil characters put on screen, I kept thinking he was David Thewlis It explained so much about what happened so very well and how a N Reactor works. I hope Jared gets not only the big tv awards but also steps up to bigger movie roles after this, he and Skarsgard were brilliant together. And the miners nice to have some bits of humour scattered around in between the horror

Really great series. Stellan Skarsgard was phenomenal. I didn't realize it was him at first, as I'm used to seeing him with blond hair. I had to look twice to make the connection. Jared Harris and Emily Watson were both outstanding. Episodes 4 and 5 fell a bit flat for me. They're weren't as intriguing as the first 3 episodes.
I remember hearing of the Chernobyl event on the news back in the 80s, but I didn't know the details of it. Really scary to think of the ramifications of this type of event.

I hope Jared gets not only the big tv awards but also steps up to bigger movie roles after this, he and Skarsgard were brilliant together. Harris should already be very well known after Mad Men and The Queen The Crown.

Way too heavy-handed with the anti-Soviet propaganda. A lot of the characters come off as cartoonish caricatures.
Would be interesting to see a Ukrainian- or Russian-written and produced version.
My other main criticism is that the way they tell the story, the audience is left to believe that there were only two senior nuclear scientists (Legasov and Khomyuk) working on disaster management and the investigation into what went wrong in the first place, one of whom in the beginning was largely doing the latter investigation more or less on her own and in secret—super conspiracy-like.
The idea that there would have been only two senior scientists working on managing the disaster response is utterly preposterous.
