I am trying to remember a TV show from more than 10 years ago that featured elaborate hidden camera pranks. I can visualize the face of the host but I can’t for the life of me remember his name. I am sure he had been in movies or TV before, but he wasn’t very well known. I don’t remember seeing him in anything recently.
I remember two of the pranks, both very funny. On the first one, the host played a hypnotist putting on a show at a bar. The thing is, everybody with the exception of one woman is in on it. So at some point during the show, the “hypnotist” tells everybody to fall asleep, and everyone pretends to fall asleep – with the exception of the mark, of course. The hypnotist and his assistant then start going through everybody’s purses and wallets and stealing their money, watches and jewelry. The woman looks around and asks if that was part of the show. The guy tells her to fall asleep, which she obviously doesn’t do. He tries multiple times, and she gets more and more aggravated and threatens to call the police.
In the other one, the setup was a Japanese restaurant supposedly owned by a white guy (played by the host of the show) married to a Japanese woman. The “victim” of the prank was a white guy who could speak fluent Japanese. His friends (who were all in on it) brought him to the restaurant. The Japanese waiters start to talk among themselves in Japanese saying all kinds of horrible things about their boss right in front of him, while he is just standing there grinning and talking to the guests. Then one of the waiters tells the other to cover for him while he goes in the back to have a quickie with the boss’s wife, and that later they can switch. The mark can’t believe what he is hearing, and he doesn’t know if he should laugh or tell his friends or what.
