That's typically the case for summer blockbusters, but it still has me excited.

Whatculture gave it a positive review. That's a good sign since those bastards don't like anything.

Can't be any worse than Godzilla 2014. I had so many issues with that one. I couldn't stand Aaron Taylor Johnson in that. Just a monotone lifeless performance from him. And there wasn't enough Godzilla in the 2014 film. (I will admit that the halo jump scene was haunting & jaw dropping in IMAX though) .

But I still to this day cannot figure out why they killed off Bryan Cranston. In the first thirty(?) minutes. He could had been like the Roy Scheider/Sam Neill in that movie.

Probably seeing it in tomorrow. Definitely a little apprehensive now that the RT rating has collapsed into "splat" territory.

Saw it last night and liked it.
I'm curious to see how Kong vs Godzilla will work.

I gave it a 7/10 on IMDb. Not great, but enjoyable.

Saw it last night and liked it. I'm curious to see how Kong vs Godzilla will work. They discover that each one’s mother was named Martha.

its pretty bad. even vera farmiga and MBB cant save it. demented script and not enough monsters and completelly void of humor and emotions. didnt walk out because i love famrmiga but was bored whenever she (or MBB) wasnt on screen. 4/10 cause the actors really pulled their weight and they weigh a lot .

I enjoyed this more than you did but I do agree that the human cast was way less entertaining than the monster cast. I did enjoy Charles Dance and Kyle Chandler mostly because I'm a Game of Thrones and Friday Night Lights fan. Kong: Skull Island still had the best balance of an interesting cast and monsters.

7/10
Good, but not great. It was drug down by boring human subplots. Why spend the first half hour on backstory about Vera and Kyle's marriage? No. One. Cares. Aside from that the monsters were great. I LOVED Mothra, she was beautiful. Rodan was cool, and of course, GODZILLA IS KING!
They should have spent time on backstory about the Titans instead of the humans, introducing the mythology of creature. Everything aside from the people in this film was great. I'm really curious about the mammoth looking Titan. We didn't see much of it, but I love mammoths and what we did see looked really cool!

Skull Island had better writing. The human cast moved the plot forward but didn't drag it down like they did in this one.

I enjoyed it for what it was. I like Godzilla 2014 a lot, and this wasn't quite as good. Miles ahead of the terrible Kong Skull Island, though. That movie was borderline unwatchable. People complain Zilla 2014 didn't have enough of the monsters. Maybe that's why I liked it, it focused more on the people. Skull Island was just CGI creatures eating cardboard cutout characters for two hours. Hiddleston and Larson were completely miscast in their roles, SLJ was a nut and the rest of the cast were just annoying fodder for the beasts.) KOTM seems to have balanced the people/monster ratio better than either of the other two films, though the writing itself left a lot to be desired. Not sure why you assemble an all-star B-List cast like this only to give them nothing to do, especially Charles Dance. And yet we still have no sense for who these people are. The central characters, the secondary comic relief guys, the villains, the grunts on the ground; the film spends enough time with each of them to signal that we're supposed to care about them-- but the script gives them nothing for us to grab onto. They've done nothing but read exposition so I can't say I'm compelled to learn their fate one way or the other. Just give them something to do; a task they complete, a function on the ship, a person they rescue. Something that defines their character more than 'villain,' 'quirky nerd,' 'one-liner supporting character.' (All that said, at least they weren't unlikeable and nonsensical like 90% of the Skull Island cast.) But the fights were fun and nobody turned in a cringeworthy performance even if they weren't particularly memorable. The villains' plan is absurd but then the whole premise is absurd so whatever. The production deserves points for throwing in a lot of old school lore and doing some creative stuff using the creatures' powersets, though I have to say I don't know how they take things up a notch for Godzilla vs. Kong. I think it's an Avengers template waiting to happen. Our two heroes tussle at first, then realize they need to team up to take down a resurrected Ghidorah. Hopefully Dance will have a lot more to do in the next film. As a hilarious side note, I mentioned to my wife that I appreciated all the lore they added to this film and she said, "Wait, there are a bunch of old Godzilla movies?" No, she isn't some child bride I smuggled into the country. But clearly, dopey old monster movies were not on her radar back in the day. I could see myself watching this again on tv. It's just an updated version of the originals. Not as cerebral a film as Godzilla 2014 but it does what it's supposed to do. Godzilla 2014 -- 7/10 Kong: Skull Island -- 3/10 Godzilla KOTM -- 6/10

Horrible movie. 2 hours and 11 minutes of dark CGI roaring from the Titans and dumb video game style action contrivances. Huge disappointment compared to the much better, but still mediocre, first movie.

See, this is what puts me off seeing these films, they are usually always about half an hour too long, just fleshed out with flat and cheesy drama and I would only want to go to see the monsters, not some phony and superficial love story. yeah, it is irritating. Humans are supporting cast in a creature feature. They should move the plot forward but not take away from the action. The monsters were great in this, though.
