Maya, so I take it that Odissi is your favourite form of Indian dance and you like it better than Bharatnatyam and Kathak etc? Good choice I must say!

Hare krishna was founded outside of India if I am not incorrect? Was it formed in California? It's a Hindu Vishnu-ite sect. I'm not sure where it was founded. But it has adherents in India. It's become very mainstream in Southern California. I just checked. It was founded in the USA (New York). It is very strongly inspired by Christianity.
ISKCON totally sucks. They are loonies.

Bullshit. You've really turned into an ass. It's Messianic. But it's not Christian. I am not saying that it is Christianity. It's a school that follows some god called Krishna. But they are inspired from Christianity and especially the American models.

It is the form that is usually integrated into tribal fusion belly dance. It is beautiful. Sadly in the early 1980s I only had one lesson in Bharatnatyam; as the class was cancelled. I was one of two interested students.
PS.......I took the name Maya long before this film.

Cool. Glad that you appreciate the classical dance. Sadly Indians are more interested in that abominable nonsense called Bollywood.
Here is a short video that depicts all 8 forms of Indian classic dance.

Thank you, as I have seen that video. I have stopped dancing in 2010, due to many knee injuries. I gave it a decent run, but too much pain. I can not bear to part with my jewelry.

I am a non-religious person as they come but I won't mind visiting this temple and meeting with these lovely bears.

I am not saying that it is Christianity. It's a school that follows some god called Krishna. But they are inspired from Christianity and especially the American models. Krishna is an avatar of Vishnu like Christ is an avatar of Yahweh. You are 100% right. But the loonies that are HK say that Vishnu is the avatar of Krishna. Their whole religion is contrary to traditional Hinduism.

You are 100% right. But the loonies that are HK say that Vishnu is the avatar of Krishna. Their whole religion is contrary to traditional Hinduism. But you seem to be saying it's not Hinduism because they differ from Hindu Orthodoxy. And there are Christians who say Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses are not Christian because they reject the Trinity. That's balderdash as well. I'd say Hare Krishnas are unorthodox but they are still Hindu. And they've been very successful at spreading what is good about Hinduism in the West. I am not saying that they are not Hindus although there are at least two instances of when their leaders have said they are not Hindus. I am just saying that they are bloody cultists. That said there are many other types of cultists who come under Hindu domain so it's not that being cultists stops them from being Hindus. Anyone who proclaims to be a Hindu is a Hindu. It's a loosely defined religion anyway. Just that most of the HK nonsense is contrary to orthodox Hinduism and in fact contrary to orthodox Vaishnavism.
I would further like to give my opinion on Vaishnavism. Vaishnavism itself is a sect that was very strongly influenced by Jainism. It's just a slightly more practical version of Jainism. Further, Vaishnavism was also influenced by Islam and then Christianity during the Victorian era. All in all, Vaishnavism has been influenced by all sorts of religions to become what it is today. Shaivism is a lot closer to old Hinduism.
