This is a fascinating long form article by the BBC about an Iraqi man who was reunited with his mother after thirty years. To summarize: during the first Gulf War, Amar was severely injured in a napalm attack in his hometown in Iraq. He was rescued and woke up with horrific burns in a hospital ward of a refugee camp in Iran. They were unable to find his family and it was assumed that he was an orphan. A few months later, A British politician was on a fact finding mission when she met this little boy in the camp. She raised money for his treatment in the UK and he was flown there. He then settled there living with the politician's family. 30 years later, a man contacted Amar on Facebook with information regarding his mother. On the TV news, he watched an old woman interrupt a news reporter, talking about her missing son. The man was moved by this clip and he searched the internet hoping to find information about the missing boy. He came across an article about an Iraqi boy who was flown to the UK and he thought that their stories were a good match. Amar thought this was a hoax and blocked him. However the man was persistent, even reaching out to Amar's friends on Facebook. You can read the rest of the article here about how he was reunited with his mother: www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-sh/the_boy_in_the_photoI would like to know more about the internet sleuth who found Amar. It is sad that for years Amar's family tried to find him but simply didn't have the resources and connections to do so.
