Or to try to save his life? I mean...what are the chances he didn't actually do it? Seems like he only confessed because he thought it would stop them from executing him. both?.

Chances Bundy didn't kill the women he was executed for? About zero. He may not have killed some he's been linked to, but whether we'll ever know for certain is doubtful.
