Probably the same reason Supergirl doesn't get credit as the first DC movie with a female lead. Or Steel doesn't get credit as the first (mainstream?) superhero movie with a black lead. Not quite. DC were not involved in any film production at the time...it was a DC character but a Salkind/Warners not, DC film. Steel was the actual DC production.

Black lead in 1998 with Blade....black female co-lead in 1999 with X-Men...female lead in 2005 with Elektra...female director in 2008 with Punisher: War Zone. And now these things seem worth complaining about by some people when done now!

Yeah I mean...Elektra the movie I guess sucked so it was forgotten...but the Blade movies are still some of the most kick-ass action superhero films to date. And Wesley Snipes owned the role more perfectly that anyone else. Blade I and II absolutely rocked.
I mean I found both Blade and Black Panther great films, but there's a sickening vibe when the DIVERSITY! crowd embraces you. Because it's not actually about diversity - they don't give a shit about the older projects, this specific crowd just cares about scoring current political points. Which is not what art should be about.

Not by the modern definition it isn't. It's a movie featuring Marvel characters, not a Marvel Studios film. Bit more complicated than that...Elektra was produced by Marvel Enterprises which became/renamed Marvel Entertainment with the Disney purchase. Marvel Studios are the Marvel productions made by Disney. Disney are the parent company for both Marvel Entertainment and Marvel Studios. All Marvel character films since Blade are not just Marvel character films, but actual Marvel films. Unlike for example the Christopher Reeve Superman films which are DC character films but not DC Films as DC was not involved in the production or a production company/subsiduary.

The hype would be based on the franchise not the publishing company.
