Thinking of the Twilight crossover memes we'll be seeing for the next two years. In all seriousness, I'm not bothered by it. I'm just glad it's not Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

And the countless stories about the actor "beefing up for the Batsuit". Or maybe Batman will have a whole new pale and lanky look.

Love this casting tbh . I am sure Nolan put in a good word (as Pattinson is the lead in his new film). He has the jawline and can do the whole brooding thing well but yeah he will need to hit the gym hard for this role.

According to a shit ton of people Pattinson is an incredible actor, Twilight he apparently knew was garbage and isn't a fair reflection on his talent, lots of these smaller roles he took after those films he's shined in, so I don't have an issue with it, not like it's new for the guy donning the cowl to be a controversial choice, people hated Keaton & Affleck's casting, not sure about Bale, Kilmer & Clooney however.

Yeah, but didn’t people like Keaton in the end. Exactly just because we have an association of the guy with something else which makes you scoff at the idea of him as Batman just remember people did the same leading into 89 and Keaton won people over, Pattinson is by all accounts outside of Twilight where his character is a pale glittery plank of wood to begin with he's a talented actor so he could just as easily smash it out of the park himself.

I don't remember seeing or hearing any criticism over the casting of Val Kilmer for 'Batman Forever' apart from the Michael Keaton fans who were disappointed he wasn't coming back for the movie but there were a lot of people who were unsure of Christian Bale when it was announced he was going to play Batman 'cause his most well-known roll at the time was playing a psychotic murderer, Patrick Bateman in the movie adaption of Bret Easton Ellis's 'American Psycho' and there were people saying they couldn't unsee him from that role and I was not a fan of 'The Dark Knight Trilogy' as you know but I think he was able to overcome that for many people.

Most people said the same thing when they heard Michael Keaton was going to be Batman and when Heath Ledger was going to be the Joker.
I was on board with Keaton because he has always been one of my favorite actors but I have to admit I was completely wrong about Ledger, he was great and I just didn't see it when they announced he was cast.

Yeah people doubted Jared Leto as the Joker too. Oh wait...

This is awesome and a step up for evolutionary growth in superhero films. We are going to have our first gay Batman, even if he is still in his bat closet. Do tell. Pattinson has your homo-spidey senses tingling? I never got that vibe, but I'm not a homosuperior either.

It's the trend of non alpha types for heroic parts.
Keaton was criticized not only because he had been a comedian but also because he was not the superhero comic book type. Neither was Christopher Reeve before steroids but he was 6'4 ish and the character was presented as a nice non-threatening guy.
A cgi-enhanced Batman is the norm these days anyway--but they also had to give Keaton a rubber costume because he simply wasn't going to gain muscle in any effective way. The worst scene is when he tries to threaten Nicholson "you want crazy-I can do crazy huh!"
But Nicholson was on the short side too-- 5' 9.
Caesar Romero = 6 '2.

The Lighthouse 2019. Robert is on the right (Willem Dafoe the left). Maybe his artistic choices are beginning to flush out his past.

Keaton and Ledger proved their doubters wrong, this guy should get his chance to do the same. And let's be honest, I don't think anyone was allowed to actually act in the Twilight films.

I'm still not convinced. Yes, he has acting skill but I have yet to see him in anything where he was able to look successfully intimidating.

The suit will make up for most of that, personally I never found Bale' Batman intimidating, actually I found him to be one of the worst parts of the series, always felt too much like he was trying to be intimidating which made him all the less so.
In truth who plays the Batman doesn't matter much, great Batman films aren't down to the guy in the cowl but the villains, so long as we had solid bad guys for the Bat to face off with so long as the guy in the cape isn't a total joke all will be good.
