Really well done new Youtube documentary on the vanishing of Flight 370. Includes a very detailed analysis of the satellite and communications data, which honestly makes it seem very unlikely in my view that this was not due to human interference. Is there any explanation for why the plane tried to reconnect to the SatCom after initially disconnecting. I guess I'm very much a newbie to this case. I also didn't realize that the flight had recrossed over Malaysia after air traffic controllers lost contact. How was the plane undetected throughout this and how did no one notice it was back in Malaysian airspace? Sorry if this is potentially an old documentary everyone has seen or not very good, but I found it very interesting. But really... how has this plane not been found? The 25 minute documentary is available here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kd2KEHvK-q8

But really... how has this plane not been found? I've been wondering how in this day and age, with all our surveillance and other aerial tracking technologies, how a major commercial passenger plane can just "Vanish", without a trace ( SEE BELOW), in the first place. ( Yeah, yeah... there have been an extremely few pieces of wreckage that have bound floating about... but, they have been absolutely no help in finding the crash site...) Sure, even if we know where the plane hit the water, it might take a few days to pinpoint it's exact location on the bottom of the ocean... But... 5 years on, and we still haven't located the crash site? How can that be? It's just so mind-boggling! And I feel sorry for the families that won't say goodbye to their loved ones, because they still think they might be alive on land somewhere... If the wreck was found, at least then they would know for sure that they are dead, and they could have closure. This was already solved, a year ago:
"The pilot turned the transponder off, that he depressurized the airplane, which would disable the passengers,” said Larry Vance, a veteran aircraft investigator from Canada. “He was killing himself. Unfortunately, he was killing everyone else onboard. And he did it deliberately.”
“Captain Zaharie dipped his wing to see Penang, his home town,” Simon Hardy, a Boeing 777 senior pilot and instructor, said on “60 Minutes.”
“If you look very carefully, you can see it's actually a turn to the left, and then start a long turn to the right. And then another left turn. So I spent a long time thinking about what this could be, what technical reason is there for this, and, after two months, three months thinking about this, I finally got the answer: Someone was looking out the window.”
“It might be a long, emotional goodbye,” Hardy added. “Or a short, emotional goodbye to his home town.”

How could a modern aircraft tracked by radar and satellites simply disappear?
Because, they say, Zaharie wanted it to. And the veteran pilot, who had nearly 20,000 hours of flight experience and had built a flight simulator in his home, knew exactly how to do it.
For example, at one point, he flew near the border of Malaysia and Thailand, crisscrossing into the airspace of both, Hardy said. But neither country was likely to see the plane as a threat because it was on the edge of their airspace.
“Both of the controllers aren't bothered about this mysterious aircraft because, oh, it's gone, it's not in our space anymore,” Hardy said. “If you were commissioning me to do this operation and try to make a 777 disappear, I would do the same thing. As far as I'm concerned, it's very accurate flying, and it did the job.”

This was already solved, a year ago: Nothing has been "solved", yet... If it were, the wreck would have been found. So far everything is just theory and speculation.

President Ackbar™ , while we may never get the confirmation, the version put forward in your quote does make sense and is quite plausible.
