Joe Castro (Born: May 17, 1970 in San Antonio, Texas, USA)
Joe Castro
'Baby Doll' - Sweet Spirit
Independent filmmaker Joe Castro is a carnival performer and special effects artist who started out working with horror filmmakers Fred Olen Ray and Grant Austin Waldman in the early 1990s. He's part of a long cinematic tradition that saw the late Stan Winston, Tom Savini and many other make-up effects artists try their hand at directing, though in Castro's case it's become his main profession (as it has for Robert Kurtzman, and did for the late John Carl Buechler). Castro's major contribution to the horror genre has been the beloved 'Terror Toons' splatter franchise which provides him with a platform for his special effects. His soap opera spoof 'The Young, The Gay And The Restless' (2006) exhibits Castro's raw comic sensibility which is always present within his work. Though he's originally from Texas, Castro lives and works in California, shooting all over the golden state.
What are some of your favourite Joe Castro movies?
Thanks.

I've seen a few of Joe Castro's movies but at a certain point I purposefully stopped. I didn't particularly enjoy 'Blood Sisters' (2003) and I really didn't like 'Maniacal' (2003). The 'Terror Toons' franchise isn't my cup of tea either. I did enjoy one movie he directed. It's the slasher film 'The Hazing' (2003) which was released in the U K as 'Butchered', perhaps to avoid confusion with Rolfe Kanefsky's wonderful horror comedy 'The Hazing' (2004) which was also known as 'Dead Scared'.
'The Hazing' (2003) on dvd
'Missing You The Most' - Wild Moccasins

Did you see all 3 'Terror Toons'? I may need to if rumours are true about casting for part 4; according to online sources, including the film's imdb page, Beverly Lynne is set to be joined by Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens, Debbie Rochon, Emily Booth, Elissa Dowling and Lizzy Borden. That would be some line-up of genre talent.
Joe Castro used to perform a carnival act as a monster from hell with a gigantic demonic penis.

Just the first. I think I have a VHS of it in my basement. I will see the others eventually.
