What exactly are you asking? There has never been any evidence to show that Mermaids were real creatures... I assume the same goes for Nereids... However, with that said... With so many different languages existing across planet Earth, thoughout it's entire history... Many names have been used to describe the same or similar phenomenon... For Example: Bigfoot & Yeti... Were Mermaids another name for Nereids? Possibly...

I remember nereids from a mythology class I took. IIRC they had the bodies of women, whereas mermaids were half woman and half fish.
