I can't imagine that there will be much screen time for Carrie Fisher (Leia) in episode 9. They couldn't have shot much footage, and likely the story had to be at least slightly rewritten. Still, this news is probably a positive for fans. We will have to wait and see how it plays out in the story. I'd like to think that it will enhance it.

They're probably holding over some of the Leia scenes they shot for Episode 8 to put into 9. That's my guess at least.

Not to be controversial but logically, for me, if her estate green lights her appearance I think they should just crack on with CGI'ing her to the extent required to complete the original story outline (if one existed).
I don't think she could appear as weird as Rogue One Leia if they did go down that route anyway - OT Leia's appearance is burned in our minds hence even a 99.9% quality rendering was always going to appear off. Old Leia is a completely different matter - everyone (and completely wrongly by the way, but it is what it is) had something to say about her haggard, overweight appearance and cigarette ravaged voice - so Leia (like Han and Luke also to a lesser extent maybe) were already viewed almost like the CGI anomalies of Tarkin and Leia in Rogue One anyway.
Therefore I don't think a CGI copy of TFA Leia would look anywhere far as out of place, or plain weird, to anyone as Rogue One Leia. Plus the actual technology used is going to be another four / five years further down the line so the actual results should be even better...

They'll be stretching whatever they have to put "hologram" footage of her into episodes 10, 11, and 12. Anything to avoid having to actually market a Star Wars movie on the strength of Disney's "original" characters. Because, you know, it won't make a billion dollars if we can't trick nostalgic rubes into paying money to see Luke, Leia, and Chewie "one last last LAST time."
Lord knows, people aren't buying tickets for MaRey Sue or the Foe romance...

Carrie won't be in episode 9, but Leia most likely will be.

I wish someone would slap Kathleen Kennedy ridiculously hard across the face with a flaccid rubber lightsaber.

I wish someone would slap Kathleen Kennedy ridiculously hard across the face with a flaccid rubber lightsaber. But that's how we landed up in this situation in the first place
